| Faith No More – The Gentle Art Of Making Enemies Lyrics | 12 years ago |

i believe this is a song about prison rape. or at least the threat of it. This is a concept album about prison and the person is needing to fight or be raped. The words are so familiar All the same greats, the same mistakes It doesn't have to be like this Just like in school when bullies pick on the weaker kids the tougher inmates pick on the weaker one. hence the lyric so familiar same greats same mistakes. he believe the only reason its like this is because people make it that way. If you don't make a friend now One might make you, so learn The gentle art of making enemies if you dont have a friend to back you up in a fight then some horny inmate will "make you his friend." so lear how to fight and stand up your for you self. or in other words learn "the gentle art of making enemies." Don't you look so surprised Happy birthday... fucker You blow that candle out, We're gonna kick you, kick you this is the bullies of the prison saying dont be surprised that we want to hurt you for no reason. thats just what we do. happy birthday were gonna kick you is kinda like saying welcome to prison were gonna beat the shit out of you,. Don't say you're not because you are Don't say you're not because you are History tells us that you are History tells us that you are I believe the victim is trying to say he is tough and not a coward but they know better. all the new guys who have never been to prison and that are like him are afraid. hence the lyrics history tells us you are. And all you need is just one more excuse You put up one hell of a fight You put up one hell of a fight I wanna hear your very best excuse I never felt this much alive I never felt this much alive all they need is just any old random excuse to fight. and he is saying they put up one hell of a fight. but being this afraid all the time and having to watch your back constanly and fight for survival every minute of prison makes him feel more alive than he ever has before. Your day has finally come So where the hat and do the dance And let the suit keep wearing you i think he is made they beat him up so he says they will die or be bullied eventually so just keep playing the roll of the bully and let that stereo typical role decide how you should act. hence "do that dance and let the suit keep wearing you." This year you'll sit and take it And you will like it It's the gentle art of making enemies Now i believe he is being raped. and the rapist is speaking and displaying his ability to implement the gentle art of making enemies. I deserve a reward 'Cause I'm the best fuck that you ever had And if I tighten up my hole You may never see the light again the rapist is still talking. saying the victim should thank him. and that he could have made it worse. and the victim could have died and never would have seen the light again. There's always an easy way out There's always an easy way out You need something wet in your mouth You need something wet in your mouth the rapist is saying you can just take it and let it happen. that is the easy way out. and then expressing his desire to rape again with the lyric you need something wet in your mouth. And all you need is just one more excuse You put up one hell of a fight You put up one hell of a fight I wanna hear your very best excuse I never felt this much alive I never felt this much alive I never felt, never felt this much alive... he is fighting for survival and putting up a fight and trying to stay alive and rape free but regardless he feels more alive than he ever has before. |

this is a concept album about going to prison. in this song the character is being sentanced. it is an unfair trial where the evidence is being washed away. the character feels like hes being raped by the justice system and it uses that as a powerful metaphor for the unfair trial. If you want to open the hole Just put your head down and go Step beside the piece of circumstance Got to wash away the taste of evidence telling them that basicallly if you want to abuse me and rape me then go ahead and do it. dont forget to get rid of the evidence that proved i was innocent. Wash it away (Evidence...got a taste of evidence) saying they have to get rid of the taste of evidence as a metaphor for the guilt they feel for putting him away unfairly. the guilt will continue to eat away at them and they will want to wash it away . I didn't feel a thing It didn't mean a thing Look in the eye and testify; I didn't feel a thing he is saying they will not break him and take away his sanity and pride even if they sentance him unfairly. thats why he says i didnt feel a thing. he is trying to prove their rape didnt hurt. they are telling him to just testify and say he did it. Anything you say, we know you're guilty Hands above your head and you won't even feel me they dont even care what he has to say. they have already decided he is guilty. You won't feel me |

All of that thick time without you this is a song about a character who had a bad father. and all the hard time he spent with his father made him turn out bad and drunk as well Has made me so thick and drunk "and it's ok to laugh about it" I said, "it's ok to laugh about it" it has been along time since it happened and he can look back on it now and laugh Runnin' twice as fast to stay in the same place Don't catch my breath until the end of the day And I'd rather be sot in the face Than hear what you're going to say Life is hard and he doesnt want to work hard for minimum wage and hear his bad father laugh at him or blame him for his lot in life. One day the wind will come up And you'll come up empty again And who'll be laughing then? You'll come up empty again His father had never gotten anything right and even if the father is laughing at how bad life is for the son. the father will have his day eventually and the son will be the one laughing at him. No reason no explanation so play the violins It's always funny until someone gets hurt And then it's just hilarious! he and his father hate eachother and when something bad happens to one of them. the other jumps at the chance to laugh and delight in the others misery. You beat me every time you blink if only I did not have to think Think about you crackin' a smile Think about you all the while his father used to beat him and the father smiled while doing so. it feels the same when his father laughs at him for life not going right for the son. it reminds him of how he felt when his father used to beat him and smile doing it. On the ricochet it's going to hit you It's always funny until someone gets hurt You can laugh at me when it misses you again a refrence to the fact that the father will get his someday. This is a concept album about going to prison. and i believe that character in prison is being laughed at by his father for ending up there. and at the same time the son feels like its his fathers fault he turned out this way. and he hopes his father gets whats coming to him someday. and to enjoy laughing while he can. cause soon it will be his turn. |

| i believe the character in this song is going to prison for something he did a long time ago. that is why he says my blood is not that color anymore. He feels he is a different person now. he is so afraid he is thinking of just running away or killing himself. aka getting out. he fears it because it is definitely something stronger than him and he doesnt wanna see it happen. hence the lyrics. | |

| i am with naivada. this is a concept album about prison. that is why the album cover is of a warden with a dog in a prison. and it is true that this is a person afraid of something happening in their life right now. but it is specifically about prison being the dark thing that is happening. that is why it is the first song on the album. | |
