Lana Del Rey – Without You Lyrics 12 years ago
Yet another song devoted to her lost (in passing) lover. This one may even be more beautiful than "Dark Paradise" She pretty much says she's lived her whole life already. Her lover has passed and it seems like a promise from her to him to devote her life to him. "I can be your China doll." I feel like this is a way for her to feel connected to him even though he's gone, since she feels like no one gets her, "They all think I have it all." She wants to satisfy this person in the continuance of her life in order to be reunited with him upon her passing. "All my dreams and all the lights mean nothing, if I can't have you," the word have in the last line give the impression she's anticipating this in the future.

While I agree with your statement, and she does have many songs written to alcohol,
I don't necessarily think you can avoid the fact that in Off to the Races she states that,
"My man is a thief and I'm gonna stay and pray with him 'til the end/ but I trust in, the decision of the lord to watch over us, take him when he may, if he may/ I'm not afraid to say; that I'd die without him. Who else is gonna put up with me this way?/I need you, I breathe you, I'd never leave you/They would rue the day I was alone with out you."
Also, in Blue Jeans she says, "Then they took you away, stole you out of my life," which I've come to relate to a drug or alcohol-related incident with the person she was in love with at the time. I know it seems a little to ideal to be true, but you don't write songs this beautiful if you haven't been through some things. Also, in American she says "Everybody wants to go fast, but they can't compare. I don't really want the rest, only you can take me there. I don't even know what I'm saying but I'm praying for you." There is much evidence in her writing to support the theory that she was in love and something bad happened.

A Perfect Circle – Blue Lyrics 12 years ago
I just want to clear up the "smoke" thing. It seems fairly clear to me that "smoke" refers to "smoke and mirrors" (a figure of speech used to describe illusionary tactics) and the line "ignore the smoke" to me basically means to CHOOSE to be ignorant to what's going on around you. I don't yet have a comment on the rest of the song.
