Wednesday, January 16, 2002 Grundy, Virginia: At the Appalachian School of law, a repeating first year student had flunked out and attempted to convince school administrators to let him return to no avail. He went home and got his handgun and returned. He entered the school and shot six people, killing three: Dean Anthony Sutin, Professor Thomas Blackwell, and 1st Year Student and former employee Angela Dales. I was there that awful day. On Friday, January 18th we had a memorial for the victims at a church directly beside the law school. As a cold and freezing rain came down, as we exited, the sun miraculously shined through the clouds. I immediately remembered this song and I have used it sense as a recovery tool and to remember those lost and affected that day. |

I was once totally infatuated with this wonderful, sweet, and beautiful woman that I worked with. To me, she was HEAVEN. I was too frightened and intimidated by her, in those days, to tell her how I felt. Due to several issues, I moved away and left her before the days of cell phones, Facebook, etc. and I lost contact with her. Soon after I moved, I was lead vocalist for a cover band and we would cover this song. Every night, prior to singing the song, I said, "Kelly S____, wherever you are. This song is for you!!" In the last year, I reconnected with her and I told her about this. She thinks this is one of the sweetest gestures anyone has ever made toward her. We're both married to other people now but, she swears that I'm one of the sweetest men alive and would have been a much better catch than her current husband. |

My all time favorite song, period. I believe this song is saying that every time you fall in love, a train (the Lovetrain?) leaves the station. A heartbreak due to losing "the One" or the "love of your life" is when "she took the last train out of my heart," and you're never gonna fall in love that way again. I used to sing this song in a cover band and I would dedicate this song to a woman named Kim, who I think, "took the last train out of my heart." |
