I really think in the first verse it is "wheeling" (or wheelin') instead of reeling and "fog" instead of fall. Thus: It's looking like a limb torn off / Or altogether just taken apart / We're wheelin' through an endless fog / We are the ever-living ghost of what once was. My interpretation is the song could be reference to a car accident (limb torn off could be tree limb and/or a human limb) and someone who was permanently injured in the accident and the mourning for that person and the way that person once was, the way things once were. Another lyric change: And anything to make you smile / It is A better side of you to admire (instead of MY better side of you to admire). An image that comes to mind here is sitting in a doctor's office tryng to make the person smile, waiting for the doctor: "But they should never take so long / Just to be over then back to another one" So of course "splitting at the seams" could be reference to the injury or a complication from the injury/illness while also meaning falling apart, failing. Beautiful song that yes, at first listen, I think everyone thinks of a romantic relationship.... but I don't think that is it at all, either. And I realize this thread is several years old, but I've only recenlty become a BOH fan, and so while listening to them on my headphones at work today, I decided to look up lyrics and foudn this site. Fun stuff and another great way to kill a few hours! |
