Maybe. But then I would wonder why Hammill would choose to set this kind of lyrics to such dynamic music. Here's another interpretation: The Scorched Earth is the past behind the protagonist, and if he turns around, he will turn to stone, though I don't know why. I think "turning to stone" here means freezing at the thought of some things that happened in the past, maybe the stupid things the protagonist did in his life. Also, both future and past have their own "traps" (i.e. dreams, distractions, which is where I don't think you need weed). |
