Funny how I associate this song with a summer's breeze rolling through an open window on my way to the beach as a kid. It would always play in the summer on 93.1 Maine's Coast FM.
Now I'm old enough to give some thought to what it actually means. But for me it will always mean those lazy summer days as a kid, no cares, innocent happiness. Oh the irony. |

I think that anyone who finds sanctuary in the city at night will know what M83 are trying to get across. There is a way, a feeling. It is peace, melancholy, reflection, joy, despair, nostalgia, anticipation. It is the ultimate time and place to look within yourself, and anything can happen. |

Personally, this is one of my favorite rap songs of all time. It is shedding a completely different light on what it means to be a 'gangsta'.
"Now gangsta-ass niggas come in all shapes and colors" : This is perspective-altering. Geto Boys are suggesting that anyone can be a gangster. It is a philosophy, and a way of life, but it is not exclusive to those committing crimes and living in a bad neighborhood. Brilliant take on the term 'gangster', and one which has (as far as I'm aware) not been made before or since by any mainstream rapper. |
