I could see my life, short film passing my eyes I tried to look away from her, as always I just tried The speaker is remembering his life, but all he really can remember is her; the "Sun of San Sebastian." I am guessing he initially didn't want to fall in love with her, but he did. Sweetness in her eyes, gone through one million miles How could I turn my back on her, the sweetest thing alive She is beautiful and kind, he has travelled very far just to be with her. But unfortunately, he did something to hurt her and now she can't forgive him, no matter how sweet she is. I was eager, day time dreamer, waiting time when I'd come alive He wanted it, dreamed of it and waited for his time to come. What "come alive" means? maybe marriage? maybe sex? I don't know for certain... Sun of San Sebastian eighteen years young today She's all I ever dreamed, but now my skies are turning gray It was good I got to know her well, because it made me see That the sun of San Sebastian is just too hot for me It must have been a young love, for her to turn 18, even if it is a memory of her 18th birthday. He loved her, hurt her, and now no longer has a future with her. He misses her but doesn't regret his time with her at all, but he knows now that he isn't worth being with her, she is too good. Look what I have done to my San Sebastian I wasted all my childhood dreams by staring at the sun He lost her by just staring at her and not by actually being with her? I don't know, this one threw me for a loop... Back in time with a dream of mine I try to find my way back to life He wishes that he could go back to the day when he hurt her and change it so he could be with her again forever. Burning fever, night time screamer, waiting time when I'd come alive now these memories, though lovely sometimes, haunt his every thought and rob him of his dreams. Sun of San Sebastian oh why I cannot stay She's all I ever dreamed, but now my skies are turning gray It was good I got to know her well, because it made me see That the sun of San Sebastian Is just too hot for me Same basically as before, he loved her, hurt her and can no longer be with her. Misses her, and doesn't regret being with her, though he now knows that she is too good for him. Every single day, for the rest of my way I live without my love, my God, I have to stay in shade When I'm old and gray, I remember that day When she came, that perfect dame and she blew me away He has to live with his choices, hurting her, and now can't stand to be with anyone else because he loves her and only her. He will remember her forever and how perfect she was. I was eager, day time dreamer, waiting time when I'd come alive yeah pre chorus... same again. Was it good I got to know her well although it made me see That the sun of San Sebastian is way too hot for me? Same line but this one is the important one, now he is wondering was it good that he was with her, no matter how long, because of the way he is now from it. Now I live my life in shades and I am married to the moon And the sun of San Sebastian is warming someone new He can no longer be with anyone, and is sleepless from his experience and knows now that she is with someone else. Heartbreaking really. |

| Sonata Arctica – Juliet Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| Personally, I think this is just a song taking the old love story of Romeo and Juliet and turning it on its ear. Instead of Romeo and Juliet dying together (though in the real one, not at the same time), in this one, Juliet tricks Romeo into killing himself. He is, as a ghost, furious by this and comes back to haunt her. First by reminding her about all that she had done with and to him. Then, wrapping the whole thing up by taking her life with his in the end. Beautiful, but creepy all the same. | |
| Sonata Arctica – Caleb Lyrics | 12 years ago |

His mother came up with such a clever way to save the day with a little white lie. (she twisted a truth into a way she could cheer up Caleb) He thinks he missed the point back then, but now he's grown to understand it, in a way. (Caleb didn't understand then but now he does, though its probably not the way his mother had planned) "Father said "I'm sorry" only once, as I remember" (depending on who says it: mother, "he did try, didn't he?" or Caleb, "He never really cared, just said it to get it out of the way.") "The words were not meant to hurt, only destroy you, my stupid son..." (again depending on the speaker: mother, she never really meant love him, just console him, get him to stop whining, but it seems like its more likely the father, "I never cared for you, in fact, I was trying to get rid of you.") One person can make a difference, sometimes...(quite obvious, but a better or worse difference?) Just turn his head when the kid is still and has a weak neck. (snap Caleb's neck and kill him while he sleeps. but we know by the rest of the song that he doesn't die like that) Smiled at his funeral, "happy you're dead." (seems now that the father is the one who is dead, and Caleb is happy that he doesn't have to deal with his father anymore) All his solutions, it seemed, were only problems in disguise (obvious but this line is going to show that Caleb is now becoming like his father) Glueing on his drinkin' face, got ready to erase another day... (an obvious problem Caleb learned from his father) Mother was yet confident, although they had it tight, taught her son (Mother with a enabling personality) At the end of every tunnel's a little light. (one of the lines she taught Caleb, that everything will turn out great in the end) It wasn't a lie, it was her hope, that everything would be fine one day (though it didn't, she hoped it would) "He can fulfill his every dream, I'm happy as long as he's not." (I had a hard time with this one, the second 'he' as in the father? or Caleb?) "I hate it and fear can't face it the child is not right, he's my greatest shame (possibly the mother saying she had tried but she realizes Caleb had turned out the opposite of what she had wanted) Go out, create thunder, and stand right under (thunder would probably be just a scene, a release of some sort) That old apple tree Where dead snakes let him feed on those (an obvious reference to the serpent in the garden of eden) Lost hopes, all those kind words could hurt him even more, now (Caleb has been hurt by his mother's enabling. He can no longer function right and now is suffering from her actions) Somehow, lost one more way back home (not sure on this one, but maybe home to where everything once made sense?) Out on the lake, he rows towards a monster he should've been running away from, years ago. (if Caleb lives on at lake house, then it would make sense that its his mother. A little deeper, it could mean a monster in himself that was hidden under the surface of his subconscious) The past had made him blind to the way he'd turned the pain into a way of life. (again a reference that Caleb is messed up more by his parents actions and is now acting just like his father) Followed his father, tucked him in, Caleb knows the trade. (like most children, Caleb has learned how to be just from the way he was treated when he was sent to bed) He's the portrait of a man his mother drew to hate forever. (bam! there it is. Caleb is just like his father and his mother hates it.) She was a beast, a deadly saint, wrong in many ways (and she is partially to blame for it) Wanted to keep up the charade, until the end waltzing together (she wanted to pretend that everything was fine, until the VERY end) Over the hills, under the sea, (opposites, used commonly for travel/led/ing far and wide) Fighting the will, whole Universe (fighting against everything, the whole Universe) Why does a man driving a hearse Live in fear, Gift and a Curse ( Why does someone who deals with death everyday have something to fear, he knows death but still fears it (the gift and a curse part)) Taking 'em out, taking 'em all, Shooting the wall, over and out (shooting the wall is like an executioners wall and most likely Caleb is in the execution line) When nothing moves, all's well, (don't stop shooting until all of them stop moving) A decision he can find a way to live with (Caleb's okay with this descion, he is content to die) ...and dried up flowers are so beautiful. (dead "flowers" are beautiful) And it applies to all things living, and dead. (even those who are dead and living but dead inside) For that I serve my time... in my suite in Hell. (in his jail cell, waiting for his end) "Now I ring the bell to tell the world, (funeral bells, yes, they do have them) I'm ready when they bring out the soon to be dead against the wall ..." (this one makes me think he wants to just hurry this up, or maybe something else, that he is the executioner? and enjoys his job?) oo-oo-ooo This necessary evil has no heart (works in both ways, but more so for he is the executioner, and he no longer has a heart anymore) ooo-oo-ooo Flowers and people he will now enlace (the dead will become one with the flowers as the rotting corpses feed the soil) A price he must pay serving a cold ...whatevergod. (either just living in a religious society acting as the devil, even though he doesn't believe in either. or just serving the head of the society. I like the ring of the first more) |

| Sonata Arctica – Blank File Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I see in this song someone who is a Luddite (google it). I also see a lot of references to Second Life on here (also google this one). Well more so than 1984, like some have speculated. The song talks about someone who has a computer, might have just gotten it, and is hooked on it. They have created their own little world inside it, and is now a file on someone else's computer. You have to give fairly a lot about your personal life to make an account on many of these sights, and your actions on them tell a lot more, so they are able to cater to you and your taste by sending you emails talking about stuff you like and might want to buy on there. I find it very interesting that the song says "go to moon," since in second life, the most expensive non-earthly thing has be bought with earthly money, was a virtual space rock. But continuing on, they talk about how you can "meet some people you will never see," like I am sure we all have before. But the speaker, (and it is best to use the term speaker, since we don't know if it is specifically Tony, or a character of his own imagination who is meaning the words in this song) says that he is not apart of this world, this control, so there is no file on him inside cyberspace. He is trying to reach out to you, humanity in general, and try to wake you so you can see what you have become, "a slave amongst the slaves," and hope that you can break from it. | |
| Sonata Arctica – Black Sheep Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| This is definitely a love song, "love with the maiden," but its an unreturned love song, "How many times heart's gone through the grinder." He, the speaker, is of a low class in love with a woman of a higher class. Seems like he might actually work for her family. He tries his best to get her to notice him, but he either backs out at the last minute, or he follows through and she doesn't notice him, "Singing a love song, words of a stranger." He feels jealous for those who don't love her as much as he does, because those feelings just burn him from the inside. This is just a loose idea, it doesn't fit everything 100%. | |
| Sonata Arctica – Ain't Your Fairytale Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I see this song being very much about a wolf alpha talking about his history. It seems to change who specifically is being talked to, from a general audience to a wolver (wolf hunter), to his pack, mainly the pups. The alpha talks about in past times in his life how the wolvers and the wolves fought for survival and dominance in the area they both lived in, and it became hard and harsh on both sides. And in the end both sides lost and staggered away to recoup. After many years, the wolvers come back to take out the wolves once and for all, starting with the weaker ones and moving up. This outrages the alpha, and turns to his pack to attack at will (I might be reading too much right there) to "heal the sore" but it wont help, because violence begets violence. It seems that the alpha has a final message to his pups, and a separate one to the wolvers. The one to the pups is, learn from those who are protecting you and know better, so that way you can pass that down to the next set of pups, so that way our pack can continue to thrive. And that same kind of message is sent to the wolver, as long as we have each other, we won't die, and we will hunt you all back. | |

Quite literally, this song is about lies can control your world and lead to your own demise. Quite a set of lyrics for this day and age, with, well to me, very extreme religious overtones. (did Tony go to a catholic preparatory school or something? 'cause this seems to be quite prominite in many of his songs.) Starting off right away with the first verse, the speaker is saying, you have made your own false reality with your lies and drove yourself to insanity. and just as a side note, insanity is defined as the repeating of the same exact actions and expecting completely different results, like lying to keep people from figuring the real you out. When you change from your dreamworld to the real world, will you be able to tell which is which? and the ringing bell might mean either something trying to break through your lies and tell you the truth, or something deeper in his own imagination. Follow the teaching which you have been taught, like that when you die you still face judgement afterwards. And if you have forgotten this, you still have to face it anyways. A very common saying, that you have to deal with your actions in the end, "you made your bed, now sleep in it." "They" are most likely either the souls in hell (down where you belong) wether it be the tortured souls or the demons torturing them, are the ones talking. "Once you are down in hell, you wont be able to leave, so have some fun while you can," is the basic gist that I catch from the words of the chorus. Run, run fast for the rest of your life, cause once your caught, die, your done for. And you are such a terrible liar that without even trying, just the way you look at someone, you are lying to them. In the end you will meet your maker and will be judged, just like everyone else. You are so going to hell, are you able to feel the fires even now? and ending with the pre-chorus and chorus again. |

| Sonata Arctica – Don't Say a Word Lyrics | 12 years ago |

I am going to try to break this one down verse by verse. I am your poison candygram,: The speaker is saying that he was in the perfect relationship but now it has ended and in quite an ugly way. the latin line means past life, so with the rest of the line its like, this is all over now, you've changed, and now I have to deal with the mess you have made." Ending with the creepy, "I wanted to be with you no matter what, even if it hurt me." Under the moon I hold a wake for a promise torn: I take this one as, "you made a promise and broke it. Now I am back here with you and just as you ended your promise, I will end you. Just stay with me a little longer..." I read a book about a man, a love, a woman, how they died: a very clear relation between the speaker's love life and Romeo and Juliet, and how he didn't think that his love story would end in death. Now he sees that he was a fool to think his love would last. Open your blue eyes, tell me that you love me, whore: Not sure if its really blue eyes or not, but the speaker says "no, you never love me, and no matter what you say can change that." and again making the reference that because a promise/vow (more than likely marriage) was broken, it will end in death. Giving an extreme meaning to "till death do us part." [CHORUS:] Mother always said "my son, do the noble thing...": The speaker learned from his mother to stay moral and true to your word, but he has warped it to an extreme and is making sure that his past love follows through with her promise (till death again). And no words can change the outcome of tonight, so just stop talking. It won't be long now, love, like mist I slowly fill the room: This one always gives me the idea of something ritualistic where the lover is strapped down, thus giving him a perfect place to put a candle. The mist part, he is going to fill her room making it hard for her to breath. Catatonic, means in a coma, just for those who don't know. and finally, he said it isn't his fault that their relationship is over, but hers for making him fail to stay with her. Open your blue eyes, tell me that you love me, whore: This pre chorus, like the others, goes the same way. "You lied, I no longer believe you, and you will die by my hand tonight." [CHORUS:] Same chorus, so same meaning Strawberry blonde, your stranglehold: This one is like a very direct monologue from the speaker to his loved one. That he is finally free of the pain he was put through being with her, unlike the perfect love he thought he had with her, and he now sees she never did think that way in the first place. Now that he has control over her he will be her end but first remind her the exact promise she made (more till death.) Short is the flight of this little starling: Unlike the last verse this seems to be his inner thoughts. Mocking her in a lighthearted way (almost like what happens doesn't really matter) and even in a joking matter about the emotions lost over her. Now he has her right where he wants here and enjoy every moment of this We had it all so sweet: "What we had was beautiful but with what was hidden from each other, and don't worry love it will all be over soon." As a side note, Argentite, is a discredited mineral for is instability in normal air pressure, and used in processes dealing with silver ore deposits. No word you say tonight: Like it has been said several times in the song so far, "you can't say anything to change anything, and the till death part of our promise is coming to you tonight." Another side note, Pacta sunt servanda= Deals must be kept (loosely) ... The wounds are too deep,: Very familiar feeling to me but this one is quite literal Unlike the last time here,: I took this one like most of Tony's songs, with a twist of a messed up fairytale. "I was unable to go through with our deal last time, but now I can and will tonight. No one will come to rescue you, with allows me to decide your fate." [SOLOS] Awesome solos all around! Closing your eyes, don't ever say you love me, whore: This is a final pre chorus, one that shows that she is either dying now or already dead. and the last part, creepiest part of all to me, is his summarization of his life and the end of hers now. [CHORUS:]x2 Awesome chorus, and intense ending. This is just a look at what the song would mean if one doesn't bog it down with the idea of the Caleb Trilogy. I am not saying this isn't a apart of it, but, this is just a one song look at this songs meaning. |

| In Flames – Pinball Map Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I am sure a lot of people are going to be upset with me for this, but recently (as in like within the last couple of months) In Flames Official on Facebook came out and said the song is about being so drunk that one is unable to eat spaghetti. Personally, I think that whoever wrote that was drunk at the time... | |
