I'm so sorry that he called you a stalker. I'm also sorry that your friends left you and didn't stand by you in a difficult time. Ladies, we need to stick together! When somebody's reputation is under attack, it is cowardly and wrong to ditch them to try to "save" yourself. |

Luckily, it sounds like you're not speaking from experience when you say that this is the "kind of relationships i would LOVE to have." Please, for your own sake, keep it that way. |

If this is truly what the song is about, then staying with her current boyfriend is not making a mistake, it's doing the right thing. Promises mean something. If people broke up every time somebody else made their heart beat fast, no couple would last longer than a week. |

This has nothing to do with defying conventionality, because frankly, based on the posts on this message board, it seems that popular opinion actually favors her getting back together with the bad boy. The issue at stake is whether you give more priority to whether your significant other has moral character or to whether they make you feel that "roller coaster rush." That rush may last longer with some people than it will with others but eventually it's going to wear off. Integrity, by contrast, will last a lifetime. |

If you think all your future relationships will pale by comparison, perhaps it would be wise for you to stay single for a while. It seems like a better idea than getting back with your ex |

One important thing to realize: physical attraction lasts about two years maximum and then it wears off. Even the person you feel crazy in love with right now will seem somewhat dull in a couple of years, so what would you rather have? 1) A couple of years of intense passion, followed by years (decades if you're unlucky) of acrimony and hate and regret. or 2) A long, stable and happy relationship that involves mutual respect and care for each other, even if it's not quite as intense at first? I hope it doesn't sound like I'm scolding or judging women for being attracted to men who are bad for them, but there's a difference between having feelings and acting on them. Please take care of yourself. Sometimes, the "perfect" boy is not the right choice for some reason, but anybody who treats you badly will never be the right choice. |

To everybody who says that this song represents their feelings: I have a slightly different take on how this interacts with my personal experience. I had a crush on a "bad boy" in high school, but he chose somebody else over me. I ended up having two boyfriends (one past, one current) who treat/treated me well and generally map to Taylor's current boyfriend in the song. And you know what? I don't miss the bad boy. Not one little bit. Instead of feeling regret that we never got together, I feel immense relief. We're still friends, but I would have been miserable as his girlfriend. |

No, not all of us are drawn to the bad boy. The guys around me who fancy themselves bad boys are not sexy or alluring, they're irritating and obnoxious and I wish they would go away. I also wish people would stop generalizing the romantic preferences of some women and say that they represent the feelings of anybody with two X chromosomes. |

"It's not love if you're not fighting for something." You should be fighting for each other, not against each other. Ideally, you and your partner form an army of two and you protect each other against the world, but what's she's describing sounds more like a civil war.

I really hope that the guy you're in a relationship with treats you better than the guy in this song, because the guy in the song sounds terrible. Be with someone who deserves you.

Not every woman wants passion. Some of us recognize that mutual respect and compatible personalities are far more important than "chemistry." Given the fact that you use the term "they" to refer to women, I assume that you are a man. Please stop being condescending and telling women what we really want. We know better than you do. No person, male or female, can speak for half the human race. If you think I'm a "dishonest woman" for saying this, then you have no concept of changing your opinions to fit evidence and you are just stubbornly sticking with being wrong. |

I understand why you didn't like the song. My first reaction was also "what the fuck." Nonetheless, I think the point of the song is not that she wants to be back together with her ex but that she wishes she could love her current boyfriend (the one who treats her well) in the way he deserves. It seems to be more about admitting emotional vulnerability than about glorifying Stockholm Syndrome. I agree more with your criticism that she should write more varied song material. (Healthy, respectful) romantic relationships are wonderful, and they are a big part of what constitutes a good life for many people BUT they are nowhere close to the only important thing in a person's life. The myth that all women think about is finding a good man is one of the most damaging fictions perpetuated by the media. Taylor Swift's massive success is a symptom of this problem, not a cause. There are certainly plenty of talented and empowering female singers out there, they're just not as famous as TSwift. *hugs* |
