I always interpreted this song as being about two lovers or friends. One of them is away a lot, seeking new experiences ("all the travels I made, all the triumphs in my book"). Thus, the other person falls into despair and starts drinking. The first person realises this, feels guilty, and begs him/her to stop drinking because there are other, better, ways to survive loneliness.
The second stanza of the 2nd verse confuses me though, "Now if I was to envy you" etc.... |

I always thought this song was about someone being fed up with people thinking they're something special and misunderstood, geniuses to be, while they're just wasting their time doing senseless stuff like getting wasted & high. |

This song is about someone who's all sugar in your face; telling you sweet little phrases & acting all holy while trying to secretly ensnare you into doing what they want you to do - aka being a hypocrite. But the person in this song realizes this, and explains that it's time to move on because he won't have this fakeness anymore. |

I always wondered about this song! I know Ola wrote it for a friend and that Vendelay was a combination of vindaloo + mandalay, but nothing more.
The lyrics "your ball gets properly stocked" always confused me. It's obviously about a person going through something difficult, and s/he gets talked about - but what? |

Ola mentioned once that this song has no actual meaning; he was inspired by African sounds and simply wanted to make a song that would make people dance. I don't know if there's really anything more to interpret in the lyrics; in my opinion they're quite simple & straight-forward. |

My interpretation of this song is that it's about this girl who knows that she shouldn't stay in a relationship because it's not doing her any good & she feels bad about it, but everytime he comes near her she forgets about everything she's told herself and continues to fall for him - turning into this stupid machine only designed to obey his every word. |
