okay so I've always interpreted this song to be about mental illness, specifically anxiety disorder. and it may be because of my suffering with this that I do see it to be this way but there are a few bits that really point it out to me. 'life keeps getting harder and it just keeps getting harder to hide the darker it is around me the easier it is to see inside ' this whole bit i feel is about how the worse things get, how more people can see what's going on. whats wrong with her. the bit about 'lets just say I'm doing fine' seems to me to be her saying that shes okay, because she knows that people can see that things are going wrong so shes just trying to say shes okay over and over again, so that people stop asking and to stop more people from trying to work it out and having to tell more people. the bit about 'the crowd has been gathering outside since dawn' seems to be like the feeling that everyone everwhere is staring at her or is 'there for her' and the more and more people who are trying to work out whats wrong, and are trying to get into her head (or her glass house) the repetition of 'I'm gonna stay in today' leads me to believe that she's saying that she's going to stay inside one more day, the way a lot of people with anxiety justify it to themselves, as if it's just one more day or just one day at a time to justify not being able to go out. and whole section of 'tell me what is your house made off' i feel is like her saying basically you're not perfect, you have your own issue, stop questioning mine.idk it's just how I've always seen it |

| Ani DiFranco – Falling Is Like This Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| I always interpreted this song to be about being so in love with someone for their morals, or their political views or how passionate they are about something, and then coming to the realization that that passion is more important than you are, or that their passion and their personality is too strong for you. I'm probably wrong, but that's just always how I saw it. | |

In my opinion it’s the story of how age can change a person. It starts with a innocent little girl, who is hiding. It gives the imagery that she’s just a child who doesn’t want to be seen. She doesn’t want to go onstage. Then it cuts to a adult in a ‘peep booth’ so, someone who’s young and fragile not wanting to show herself, to someone who is affectively a stripper. It’s like two polar opposites. I find it really interesting. It’s an awesome song. God love Missy. |

I was always certain when I listened to this song, that Katie was a self-harmer (cutter). Speaking as a ex self-harmer I know that the most common reason for self harm is control. There’s the aspect of being alive, because of seeing the blood. Also, the chorus ‘will you draw the line’ I always saw that as being in the sense of making a cut. I do also think there’s a possibility that Katie is the girl from ‘the river’ witch could be the part about ‘drowning’ though, I also saw it originally that Katie kills herself. Either way, it’s a fantastic song, and so well written. |

I think it's about her quitting the music industry, she knows what she should do, what she should sing, but she somehow can't get it out and she feels pressure to write and sing, but she can't because there is such a high expectation. a great song. |

| actually, there is a sadly high rate of suicide among children :( | |

The song is quite obviously about suicide. However, I think it's really well crafted. When I first heard the song, I assumed it was a abusive family, with the line 'Hoping the cold would kill the smell of angry gin' made me think that her farther was a alcoholic (or mother) I also thought that the 'somebody’s bed' bit was about her, because she was a child, but the idea of sex trafficking makes a lot of sense. and is the girl Katie? and do we know who Katie is out side of the songs, or has missy never said anything about it? |
