Lenka – Two Lyrics 12 years ago
I think this song subtly speaks about a three-person relationship. She repeatedly says "Two", and we take it she is speaking about a couple. But then we hear "Another point of view
Instead of what I knew"
and we know something is different about this relationship.
"I was lonely never had nobody
But now I've got double, baby". She never had anyone, she says, but now she has "double", and she says "two is the one for me". "Never had so much fun
Staying up till sun". And she finishes off with
"Two, a couple not a few (only three)
Well this is something new
If a can deal with it then so can you
I never knew what double could do
But things are better, so much better"

Marina and the Diamonds – The Outsider Lyrics 12 years ago
In this song, a character whether Marina D or otherwise is not said) speaks of their own nature. The character very closed and fearful of other people, as seen in the first two lines of almost every verse. ("These people are really weird and they're giving me the fear"
The character is also very protective (he can "work a gun" if you get on his "bad side"). I believe the song implies the character says he is afraid of human connection, but actually craves it. He is drawn towards it.
The song is sung, I think, at the moment the character must choose if to keep on "pretending" and "blend in" with people or interact with them.

This song reminds me of a cowboy, cold and silent, going to rescue a victim.

Regina Spektor – Human of the Year Lyrics 12 years ago
When I hear this song, Miss Spektor speaks of a human (Karl Projektorinski) who seems to be a religious figure. We can see this by her later words, :"You stand there shaking by your pew". There seems to be an event which's purpose is to crown a person 'Human Of the Year". This is evident from the fact she sings "You have won, dear sir May I congratulate you first? Oh, what an honor - Human! human of the year! you won!"
The 'crowned' person is Karl Projektoinski (he is "called to the front of the Catherdral") but he is shocked and nervous instead of happily boistrous ("Why are you so scared? You stand there shaking by your pew
The icons are whispering to you") and the commentator/narrator of the event is puzzled by this.
Everyone is congratualating him ("outside the cars are beeping out a song in your honor") and the narrator wishes everyone well until next year's event. (Wishing well to all us sinners
And with a psalm drew silent
Till next year's big human winner)
