I think this song is deeper than that. I think she's trying to convince herself that she's going to meet him to tell him off, but is worried that his place in her heart is too strong. People who are engaged or married would not bother to meet an old flame - what would be the point? And the refrain of "And there's nothing I can do to turn it around" makes it sound far more out of control than cold and calculating. I heard Nekko Case's version first, and I think that compulsive feel is even more prominant in her version. |
