House of Heroes – Remember The Empire Lyrics 12 years ago
Hello there. You are quite right, but it goes deeper than that still. House of Heroes is a band made up of passionate Christians. "Remember the empire" and "remember your home" refer to heaven -- Christians believe that if our lives are given to Jesus, Heaven becomes our home, and that our lives on earth are temporary parts of it all. "Tear the king from the throne", while including the devil (Satan), means tearing the power away from anything that would have Christians again enslaved in the world.

Let me explain: Christians believe not only in God, but that Jesus was God Himself, come to the earth in the form of a man, so that He could be killable, and die for our sins. When He did this, the price of sin was paid, and we could all approach Him and live life with Him. Perfection had to die for imperfection so that the price would be paid in full. At Christmastime, we hear carols saying "peace on earth, ,good will to men" meaning Jesus came to let the earth know that God isn't wanting to destroy men, He wishes to save them, and came to do just that.

We Americans read bibles in English, but it wasn't written in English. It was written in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. Often there are words in these languages that don't have straightforward translations in English. (That's why there are so many bible translations -- they compliment each other, help present another piece of the picture so we can put them together and understand). When Jesus said, at the beginning of His ministry "the Kingdom of Heaven is near" (Matthew 3 & 4, for example) the literal translation is that Heaven is invading earth.

This song is a fight song -- to rally Christians to remember that we are not to forget about our true citizenship in Heaven, and the mission Christ commands us to. Jesus commanded Christians to spread the good news that God wants to save us all from the things that enslave us: fear, anger, exhaustion, unforgiveness, hate. He also told us to do the miracles He did -- physical miracles of healing and more. This song is a reminder that we can't get lazy, for people need to know how much God loves them. In 2 Peter 3 (Peter's 2nd letter to the Church at large) he explains that God wants everyone to be saved.

Falling Up – Streams Of Woe At Acheron Lyrics 13 years ago
i know better than to say something like "This song means...." to a song like this, written by a man with such intricate thought processes. And we definitely need to tie Jessy Ribordy to a chair and make him talk. That man has a mind that is full enough of legend, classical literature and trivial knowledge to burst the skull of any average human, and the world is such a better place with him in it.

But i will admit when i hear this song, i feel like i hear it talking about enduring suffering by holding on to what is true and lovely (Philippians 4:8) . In Dante's book Inferno, Acheron is a river around Hell, and in Greek mythology, the river Acheron symbolizes pain. "The green lift" (drawing poison), the archer (poison darts, "flaming arrows" or "fiery darts", Ephesians 6:16), "I'll pull the fangs out" (venom) suggest injury by poison. "Spinning room it's getting dark" (the speaker is suffering--succumbing to the effects of the injury). An islet is a remarkably tiny island; any number of venomous spiders on it would be dangerous because one could not get away from them.

In the chorus, though, it sounds to me as though he is watching the twilight descend, and the sky is turning dark as the Siletz -- an indescribably beautiful but dark, beguiling river on the Northwest coast. For a while, perhaps, he is removed from the attacks he endures day by day as life goes on. He is "poised and still", putting his trust in God to heal, care and fight for him, rather than thrashing about in the attacks and trying to fight them on his own. (Psalm 37:7, Psalm 46:10, Exodus 14:14)

At the end he is still pursuing his way to "the fortress" -- he continues to fight against the discouragement of daily suffering he feels and sees, fights the good fight, continues to where the King he fights for is waiting for him. As i believe Mr. Ribordy and his band are passionate Christ-followers, that King would likely be Jesus.

My two cents...and maybe a little bit more :) . i love this song. It's one of those songs that leaves you feeling as though you don't know how you made it through the day without it, before you found this one..
