While I see the imagery of 9/11, I also see decadence as a much bigger problem than just the US. Throughout history, whenever there is manmade super-power that grows over-confident and comfortable, something/someone always comes and reduces it to mere rubble, usually after a number of "minor" attacks that are nevertheless devastating. For all we know, terrorists may become our Vesuvius unless, as you said, we remedy the problem. However, on top of truly rebuilding what is beautiful in American society, there's still the problem of the metaphorical volcano. Counter-terrorist measures are a start, but they can lend themselves to the problem. Like throwing things into the volcano to try and calm it down, they might end up causing it to explode faster. How? Well a lot of counter-terrorist actions are instilling fear and frustration in people, the exact goal that the terrorists have. That said, the solution I see is to understand the terrorism and try to pacify it, like passively studying a volcano to see why it might erupt. Otherwise they'll just keep coming. Terrorism is a kind of ideology, not just some particular group that can be stopped. It has to be destroyed at it's root |

| It's interesting that you mention the wars, because they seem so comparative to the earthquakes the people of Pompeii were experiencing. They knocked the walls down but didn't destroy the people. And it may be scary to think, but following that thread, I think we should either think about calming the volcano (addressing what principally caused those wars) or get the hell out of Dodge, or we'll end up like the people of Pompeii. | |

I think the music video finally clicked for me in the context of the song: First off, it's one of those "recalling last night" experiences played in reverse of some kid who went to a party, got high, kissed some girl, and was so blown out of the water that with the aide of THC convinced himself that a girl that gorgeous would _have_ to be protected by some crazy mob, started a fever through shock, and ran screaming from the house, lol Why this particular mob wears wrestling masks is all on him. Maybe he had some particular fear of luchadores? No Idea. And _that_ is tongue tied if I ever saw it. So overloaded by the moment that you hallucinate, lol. That girl prolly never even realized what she helped him do to himself, lol, hence the need for this song. Cause a kiss can be a powerful thing, especially to a still single string bean that just had his first magic brownie :) |

| Well paying dues implies some kind of work or sacrifice for the the one to whom the dues are paid. While I like the imagery the mlacey45 gives further down of cultivating and growing something, I think it's important to realize that there is a lot effort required to get to the kind of elation described in the song. Have to say, it makes me want to work harder to get to this point myself :) | |
