I think all the interpretations ,specially the ones about the mental illnesses and the religious one are interesting (joceey16 , you´ve done an incredible job with the quotes ! (: ) My personal interpretation: I can relate a lot to this song .I think it describes the relationship between two persons , I think it ´s platonic love(at least one of them feels that way).the writer refers to a friend who´s fed up with everything ,whose life is terrible and who might even think about suicide.And even though the friend is even mad at him (well, basically at the whole world ),the writer is a true friend and stays by his side.He wants to help him (I'll help you see it through;'Cause I just really wanna be with you) and he knows that the friend is able to recover from his anger/depression .(You wanna wake, you can ;And every day that you wanna change).Also, the writer is getting a little impatient ,(“How long?” I say, how long;Will you relive the things that are gone?); and he sometimes feels all the effort is not worth it , because the friend is just exagerating ('ll pretend to see what you see) ;eventhough he carries on. And that is what makes the bond between them so special. I have felt both ways: like the writer and the friend ,and that´s why i just love this song.BTW Torches (the album which this song belongs to ) is really great ,definetly worth a listening ! :) |

Here comes the story from my point of view : in some languages ,for example spanish a dog day (=dÃa de perros) means a bad day, it may refer to the weather or the events in that day, so it might be about a girl who is through a bad period of her life. She might have been unhappy or even depressive during that period. But then , suddenly the truth hits her.(eg. Happiness, hit her like a train on a track) Saw saw that she had to leave everything she knew / loved behind to start over and be happy . she had to turn into a different person . (The horses are coming so you better run Run fast for your mother run fast for your father Run for your children for your sisters and brothers Leave all your love and your longing behind you Can't carry it with you if you want to survive) I believe the lyrics are actually a bit sad , but they give you the power to go on and they encourage you to make a change in your life. Ps. I think Florence and the Machine is an great band , they´re pure art. Soetmelodie |
