I agree with you on pretty much all of this, the album is definitely about pollution and other things we have done as a species to harm our planet. While it does talk about pollution in general and includes mentions of many other environmental concerns such as our overuse of electricity, I believe the main focus of the album is our overuse of plastics and other non-decomposing materials in our everyday lives. I believe this song focuses mainly on the fast-food industry. First of all, I am pretty sure the lyrics are "It comes with a toy." This, coupled with the "throw in the plastic doughnut!" comment are what i believe to be expressions of the many various way in which our society uses plastic in very unnecessary and wasteful ways. I think your jellyfish comment is genius, but as far as the lyric, I think the "don't waste time with your net, our net worth is set" part is simply a reference to the sheer number of jellyfish, meaning that you don't have to waste time catching them with a net, they'll be jumping in the boat, and that is why their "net worth is set," meaning they are surely going to make money. The next part I believe it says "Shower my habits while you dine like rabbits with the crunchy crunchy carrots." I believe this part is in reference to people who eat healthy and don't take part in the fast food industry. What I mean to say is, the person singing is supposed to be someone who eats fast food very often ("shower my habits" meaning their habit of eating fast food, making the next comment of "gotta have it" fit very well) and they are mocking people who eat healthy because mocking them makes them feel better about eating so poorly. I'm not sure about the actual lyrics in the aluminum part, but I think you hit the nail on the head as far as the fact that it is a non-decomposing material used in many places in our everyday lives including, as I think this is referencing, fast-food wrappers. Your last paragraph on the Great Pacific Garbage Patch was exactly what I was thinking. |
