I think the "Yellow" in this song is about a symptom of a disease known as jaundice. Jaundice can be caused by several diseases like hepatic dysfunction and disease, inefficient thermoregulation such as with premature infants and several blood factors. In every case, when red blood cells in the body are destroyed in increased or normal amounts, the end product is called bilirubin which in increased amounts is toxic to the body - and is also colored yellow. Bilirubin is normally excreted in the body by passing through the liver. When the liver is diseased or dysfunctional, it fails to excrete the bilirubin. The retention of bilirubin, called hyperbilirubinemia causes signs of yellow skin as well as eye coloration - thus, the word “Yellow.” Look at the stars Look how they shine for you And everything you do Yeah they were all yellow I think the song is about someone he loves who is sick or dying. That person has loved and taken care of him at one point or most of his life. I’d say it was his mother.
