I agree that this song is very cool. But nobody in the Byrds wrote any of it. Come on.....this is vintage Dylan. And Dylan's own song had many more stanzas than the Byrd's abridged version. |

Having loved the music of Bob Dylan since 1965, I also loved the Byrds. Just because I enjoy one, it doesn't mean I have to hate the other! And Dylan himself liked the Byrds well enough to allow them to use his songs and to put their own stamp on them. |

Excuse me, but having been around in the 60's, I do know what this song is about. It is about heroin, NOT LSD. The "jingle jangle morning" is how the addict feels after a night of being high, but now the drug has worn off, and withdrawals are beginning. The "evening's empire" was being high last night, but now it has all turned to sand, as the drugs wore off. And of course the user would follow after Mr. Tambourine Man, the dealer, since he needed the product so much.
I mean no disrespect to you. Clearly, we each have our own opinions. And mine is no better than yours, but it is what I believe. Thank you. |

This song bemoans the mining industry in England. Coal mining, to be specific. Working conditions in 19th century England were terrible, and many towns had to survive on output from their local mines. Owners took advantage of the workers, and there were mining accidents where loss of life occurred. |
