I am pretty sure that this is about an affair. It is addressed to the person she is having an affair with. Her boyfriend/fiance/husband is waiting for her ("I really should go he's waiting for me"), but she is with someone else, who she is actually in love with ("I'm trying hard to make you see/All that you are/Is all that I need."). She knows that she can't tell anyone ("I know that it's a secret / And that I gotta keep it"). Everyone else thinks that the nature of her relationship with this person is platonic ("We both know it's not what it seems / We both know what's between the sheets") She knows it will cause all kinds of hurt and problems for people she is close to ("What will they say / What would they do / Would it be trouble if they knew"). |

I think this song is probably about a breakup, but it could also be about unrequited love (especially if the person flirts but doesn't mean it). She is sad and speaks of wasted time and love spent on someone who threw it away. She seems determined to not be bitter and morn it forever, but to keep the memories of love hidden away and remember the good times. |
