I tend to relate all songs I comment on to a mental disorder.
Why?
Because I like to read the DSM-IV and have taken many Psychology Classes. And because that's what interests me.
| The Offspring – You're Gonna Go Far, Kid Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
It's basically about lying and manipulating people to get what you want, and saying that by doing that you'll be successful, though I believe it's meant to be taken satirically and not as if the band agrees with doing what it's saying. The only reason for the Lord of the Flies reference is that the pig's head on a stick bascially manipulated the children into killing each other. (If you view it as a real thing and not just an object that the children hallucinated was talking) Ever since I first heard it I've been refering to it as "The Lawyer Song". |

| The Killers – Mr. Brightside Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
It's a "nice guys finish last" story from the point of view of the nice guy is my personal interpretation of it. Also, the comment about the movie or whatever with the man who fell in love with the prostitue seems spot on, so I agree with that one the most. |

| The Medic Droid – Fer Sure Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
It's about a relationship that's meaningless and/or has lost its "spark" The people are still together, but really only use each other for sex. Basically about teenagers in love, in my opinion. Lines that back up my theory: "We're not falling in love, we're just falling apart" "All this time is wasted pretending we're in love, but that's alright cuz you know I love being with you and seeing you cry" |

| Mindless Self Indulgence – Unsociable Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
It's about how he never HAD to do anything, but wanted to. He wanted to lie, he wanted to sacrifice his life, etc. And he's the "shape" that's not like the others. He's different and knows that. He knows he doesn't conform to society, and that makes him "socially unaccptable", but so many people do it that it's nothing special, so he's also "unexceptional", and he doesn't like to be with other people, so he's "unsociable" The over all point of the song is about being different. |

| Mindless Self Indulgence – Stupid MF Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
This song, to me, is about thinking people are stupid but pretending to like them. The line "You think that you're dumb, I think you're smart, no wait, I lied, I think you're dumb" is basically saying "Aww don't feel bad that you feel dumb, I think you're smart" while lying and deep down thinking that person is dumb. Also the deep yet beautiful condescention he uses when speaking so fast most people cannot understand him and then asking if he should "speak slower like you're retarded" He's basically calling people retarded. Go Jimmy. |

| Marilyn Manson – The Beautiful People Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
It mentions more about society than about one particular religion, so I throw the religious aspect of things out. It mentions capitalism and facism, which are styles of politics. I think that it's about hatred for society, and what it deems beautiful. |

| The Veer Union – Darker Side Of Me Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
This song to me is about a Narcisist talking to the girl he's dating, and warning her to walk away, as well as doubting she really loves him and wants to be with him. It describes the sympoms of Narcisistic Personality Disorder perfectly. "I'm half the man that you think that I have been" = Narcisists tend to lie and exagerate their own accomplishments to make themselves sound better. "I'm empty" = A strong characteristic of NPD is a feeling of inner emptiness "I might still be here, living hell" = The mask of extreme vainity is covering extreme lack of self confidence, and this line is referring to the inner misery hating yourself deep down and such. Sources: Psychology Classes Reads the DSM for fun Was thought to be a narcisist for a while. |

| Emilie Autumn – It's Time for Tea Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
It's talking about getting revenge against society for whatever it's done to wrong her. The "time for tea" aspect is because in places around the world, tea time is seen as a necessary part of every day, and she's comparing her revenge to this. Also, syringes, amputation saws, and electroshock machines are found in hospitals, and I believe Emilie Autumn did time in an insane asylum or mental hospital, so the reference there is pretty clear. |

| Creature Feature – Bad Blood Lyrics | 12 years ago |

Other than the voices part, to me this song is basically the personal theme song of anyone with Antisocial Personality Disorder, which in most extreme cases refers to Sociopaths and Psychopaths It talks about not feeling remorse, doing evil things without anyone being able to stop them, being disturbed, nature vs nurture (a common question regarding sociopaths/psychopaths), being born evil, no conscience, not wanting to be a part of the world around them, and not feeling pain or backing down to things. The pain in this case would be emotional pain, I'm sure most people with ASPD can feel physical pain. The only thing inconsistent with the ASPD theme is the voices, since in order to have that disorder you cannot have any psychotic symptoms, including hearing voices. In which case the song could just be about being crazy and evil, but I will always prefer my interpretation of it. Sources: Psychology Classes Personal Experience with ASPD |

| Alien Ant Farm – Smooth Criminal (Michael Jackson cover) Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
This song is about a rape, not a murder. Why would you ask a murder victim if shes okay? She'd be dead... The story it's telling is: A man broke into the girl named Annie's windown, raped her, and left her in a catatonic state. She dissociated and people have to remind her what happened. They keep pestering her to make sure she's okay, and she's not answering because she's too tramatized and they keep reminding her. The man may have tried to kill her since she needed resusitation, but she did survive. The Smooth Criminal is probably referring to a sociopath/psychopath because they are smooth and cunning and can be criminals. Its trying to sound like a happy song but really isn't. The crescendo it's referring to is that this was a big point in her life she won't forget and things won't be the same afterward, just like a crescendo in a song is a loud part that is most memorable and is a big part of the song.
