to me, this song is about living with depression or anxiety, and the feeling when she goes onstage. how she can't talk to anyone, how she's withdrawn, she's fighting everything off, feels like she has to put up an act for people. But going onto stage, everything else goes away. "its a switch flipped. its a pill tipped back, its a moon eclipsed," " It’s in your bloodstream, a collision of atoms that happens before your eyes it’s a marathon run or a mountain you scale without thinking of size" means that going onto stage is like a high. "when the lights come on, ill be ready for this" is about stepping onto stage, the lights coming on and feeling different. |

i think the song is about someone discovering that there is more to life than money, how he will be thinking the good things in his life, or "stars," instead of counting his money. "take that money, watch it burn, sink in the river the lessons i learned" this line is about how money doesn't mean anything to the singer anymore, he has learned an important lesson about life. "i don't think the world is sold, I'm just doing what were told" means that he never thought that the world really was based on money, but he never challenged it until he learned this lesson. "I feel something so wrong doing the right thing" is about how he was always doing what society told him to do, but it felt wrong. The chorus is about moving on to bigger things, instead of constantly worrying about money like most people do. |

this song is all about how the guy who is singing has a lot of problems. He also has a girlfriend who is happy and innocent, and he doesn't want to show her all of his issues and how messed up he is because he's afraid to hurt her or scare her. He wants her to break up with him because he doesn't trust himself with her, and he doesn't want to drag his girlfriend down with him. near the end of the song, he mentions that he can't escape his demons without her, and you can hear that he is hopeful and though he needs her help, he is willing to escape the metaphorical demons in his mind. |
