I don't look at this song as a direct interpretation line by line, but as an overall situation. The music is one of a kind of sorrow to me. Witch contributes to my thoughts. I've known people with a problem with intimacy which is often accompanied by a kind of awkwardness and/or a lack of feelings in intimate moments. They want to have the feelings, but they're just not there. There are many clinical terms that can be applied to this situation, but many are too severe. Not being confident enough, or being brought up without seeing affection between their parents... The list goes on for reasons that people have trouble with public affection. The other side of that coin is that they may their feelings suppressed. Not knowing what to say, they may repeat or adapt what they've heard before rather than from their own experiences and feelings. They try to help, but just don't know how. This can be very saddening for the person they are with, because there's only so much they can do. I lived with someone with this situation for 16 years. It's not a tragic situation, but it is sad. |
