| Steely Dan – Home At Last Lyrics | 3 years ago |

After much pondering, I propose thus: He's saying that he is like Odysseus, but unlike Odysseus, his home is not "on this peaceful shore", but "tied to the mast" at sea/on the road. That makes sense of the lyrics. In the second verse, he's seemingly safe at home, but knows it's just the calm before the storm. So he makes another reservation, and tries his luck again. Home at last, tied to the mast. Interpretation aside, I initially thought the sound was thin and chaotic. Now I'm f**king addicted. Steely Dan--the gift that keeps on giving. |
