To me this song is about his love for her and how unattainable she is because of her depression and inner walls. I think the fact that she is so unattainable causes him great pain which then makes him drink. (or it really could be that he is an alcoholic I can definitely see it both ways) The first paragraph is how he met her and fell instantly in love. The reference to peering into the pool to me sound like the pool of her eyes. The reference to her preacher father, bible and fine tooth comb is probably referring to her religious that making her feel like she isnt good enough? and so she goes to think and examine her life with a "fine tooth comb." In the end, he either died and met G-d or an angel and even then asks her to come with him because his love for her is never ending. Whatever it does mean, the words are beautiful. I love so many of his songs. |
