| S. Carey – Rose Petals Lyrics | 7 years ago |

This song feels like it's about battling day to day depression. You wake up feeling horrible, but you decide to pull yourself up and see things with rose colored glasses since that can be so much easier that actually facing reality. We hang from the pedestal trying to decide to see life as a rose colored mirage or to drop down to face our darkest places. Beautiful song that begins an absolutely beautiful record! |

This song feels like it is an account of a fight/conflict with a lover. It seems to be speaking of the unbelievable pain that is felt when such thing occurs. I see the line that says "That leaving wasn't easing all the heaving in my veins" is describing the anxiety one feels when they are suddenly distant from their partner. I see Justin as talking about trying to become grounded in the situation, which is what he means by "trying to get his feet out of the creeks". In the end, he is saying "don't go, you're my A-Team" and leaving it at that. This song reminds me so much of "Woods". The auto-tuned vocals of course, but also that it sounds so slurred, and almost drunk, just like woods. It's awesome! |

When I saw Elbow in Boston on May 13th, I recall Guy Garvey saying this song was written for a heartbroken friend, and he was telling her to go out and get plastered, essentially, seems quite British to me. Either way, a very moving and beautiful song! |

Favorite line in the whole song: "The same color blood just pass through our veins" True that! |

To me this song is about dealing with past occurrences that come back to haunt us in life. Sometimes I find that I am reminded of certain events from my own past just because of something like the weather, or an image that I'll come across, effects that happen when you have seasonal affective disorder like I do. Having that said, take a look at the lines from the chorus: "Scars of pleasure, scars of pain, atmospheric changes make them sensitive again". That just makes me thing of those instances of nostalgia that often creep up upon us because of whatever environment we're in. Interestingly enough, Neil references the song in the book Ghost Rider. At the beginning of each chapter, he always quotes his own lyrics right under the title, and in a chapter titled "Seasonal Affective Disorder" he quotes this song's chorus. Just an interesting thought. Regardless of what it means, I love this song. It has such a catchy rhythmic feel to it, coupled with the space provided from Alex's guitars that adds so many layers to it. |
