Kristeen Young – Jealous of Loved Children Lyrics 7 years ago
Young was adopted into a foster family, who was abusive. Related, from interview at AskMeAskMeAsk (dot) Me:

"Well, I started out in a foster home and was then adopted…..but it was the kind of adoption that was just basic needs oriented. I was kept at arms’ length and the atmosphere was pretty harsh."

Kristeen Young – The Answer to All Your Problems is in this Little Bottle Lyrics 7 years ago
Per Young, the song is about a time where she saw someone who was dying and had to decide whether or not to go get help, or just let it happen.

Related, from an interview at AskMeAskMeAsk (dot) Me:

Q: If you could travel back in time and tell your younger self one thing, when would you travel to and what would you tell yourself?

A: I would go back to my involvement with my first boyfriend and tell myself “Run as fast as you can away from this person.” He was really a continuation of what my parents had done to me. He almost killed me twice — this is not a cutesy overstatement. He was abusive and suffocated me on two different occasions until I was passed-out and dying….then…..he would shake me until I was conscious again. I had such low self-esteem then. I had it in my mind that he was the only one I could relate to, but he stole a lot of my life. After him I never put up with anything that resembled abuse of any kind. I did learn. Some people don’t.

Kristeen Young – The Pictures of Sasha Grey Lyrics 7 years ago
@[TS:25762]- from HuffPo interview:

"I came across her Facebook page and it was really strange because — I really respect her because she tries to be a full-spectrum person. It’s “I don’t just have sex on camera, I’m a human being, too, and I can do all these other things” and I really like that she presents herself like that. But any sort of update of what she was doing or a picture — like “Here I am gardening” or “Here I am making dinner” got thousands of comments that were just the most [sexually] vile almost verging on violent responses. And I just couldn’t believe it. They wouldn’t let her be something else [other than a porn star] and they wouldn’t accept another part of her. It was so narrow. It was funny in one way but also really sad."

Kristeen Young – This is War Lyrics 7 years ago
From a Billboard interview with Young:

"Young says the album is somewhat inspired by her upbringing in St. Louis and how the city has changed, an idea that led to the title, 'The Knife Shift.' It means, 'Change. But with a knife. Stabbing it in and shifting it around. It also implies doing all of this while people sleep or working late hours.'"

Kristeen Young – The Pictures of Sasha Grey Lyrics 7 years ago
From a Billboard interview with Young:

"One day, I happened upon Sasha Grey's Facebook page," Young says. "It was update after update of the most everyday pics and posts: 'Here I am making dinner. Here I am gardening.' She was not presenting herself in a sexy way at all. This was Sasha trying to move on or really just be human. But, every comment – from males – in the threads underneath were the most vile-spewing. I thought the contrast was remarkable, so I remarked with this song. I thought it was telling how people won't let women be full people or move on. They desperately wanted to keep her a 'marked' woman. And I loved how she just ignored it all, living her fabulous life. She was truly rising above."

Fall Out Boy – My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light 'Em Up) Lyrics 12 years ago
From Grammy interview-

Patrick Stump:
I guess to me, when I read the finished piece, it said to me...that kind of fury that you have when you're an adult which is a different one than the one you have when you're a teenager. 'cause when you're a teenager you can things like, these permanent things like "I hope you choke", and "I hope you die" and all these other things. When you're an adult, the people that you said that to when you were a teenager are still around, and you still have to interact with and that's like...and you have to figure out how to deal with that, and that's like permanent, and you just always have to...and that's the rest of your life.

Here I'm seething with anger, and I just have to..."hi". (waves) To me, that's a lot of what that song is when I read it, is like...it's so much of that anger but compressed into the smile that you have to have as a gentleman.

Pete Wentz:
Like when you do take account of your life, sometimes it's alright to just burn it, raze it, and start fresh. I think that, for me, it's happened a couple times, and it's been, like, a healthy thing.

Fall Out Boy – The Phoenix Lyrics 12 years ago
-"Seal the cloud" should be "silver cloud with gray lining". It's an inversion of the old expression that every cloud has a silver lining.

-Not sure if "Youngblood" in the chorus is a reference to the movie. Makes sense, but could just be "young blood" (double meaning, if the former)

Fall Out Boy – My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light 'Em Up) Lyrics 13 years ago
Title of the song sounds very much like it's for Fall Out Boy fans, especially from the Cork/Your Grave albums. "My songs know what you did in the dark" could reference songs like "My Heart is the Worst Kind of Weapon," "Tell That Mick...", "Get Busy Living or..." etc.

Metric – Artificial Nocturne Lyrics 13 years ago
Song seems to parallel/be about the artist herself, if not similar people; hanging out in the back (backstage), living in the dark and having artificial lighting to represent the sun (spotlights etc), an outsider's escape for a broken heart.
