To me this song is about having bipolar disorder. I had a manic episode a couple of years ago when I went off my medication and this song kind of became my anthem when I was in a really manic high. "My reflection, dirty mirror, no connection, to myself" means he isn't himself when he goes manic and he becomes a different person. "throw out your cares and fly, wanna go for a ride" could translate into going off the meds, even though it is dangerous, in order to experience the euphoric feeling of mania. "she's the one for me, she's all I really need" she is referring to the mania, personifying it. You don't really get hungry or tired when you are manic. As for the emptiness is godliness part, it is common to have grandiose ideas about god when you are manic. "Intoxicated with the madness, Im in love with my sadness" It really does feel intoxicating to be manic and I can totally understand how you can be in love with being manic. "I never let on, that I was on a sinking ship" Means you don't tell anyone about going off medication or becoming more and more symptomatic because it feels good but is very dangerous. It is like a sinking ship because eventually you just start going crazy from lack of sleep and the imbalance of chemicals in your brain becomes overbearing. Im not saying this IS what the song is about but thats what it translated to me when I was super manic. It really felt like it was speaking to and about me, pretty nuts. |
