I'm french, so please, forgive my english ;) IMO this song is more about Gifted people than others meaning. Why do I think of this ? Just imagine Gilmour talking to is brain : "As you look around this room, tonight. Settle in your seat and dim the lights. Do you want my blood? Do you want my tears? What do you want? What do you want from me?" He's just trying to talk about the relation he has with his all mighty brain "Should I sing until I can't sing any more? Play the strings until my fingers are raw? You're so hard to please. What do you want from me?" What ever Gilmour can do, he's brain is not satisfied (N.B. Gifted people are known to be bored of everything very quick. Music and some others arts seem to be a way to escape from bordeom) "Do you think that I know something you don't know? What do you want from me?" If you're talking to your brain, and if he's almighty, he knows everything. This is just the way to say 'this song is about my brain' "If I would promise you the answers would you go? What do you want from me?" Gifted people are always asking for the answers of everything, always wondering why ... "Should I stand out in the rain? Do you want me to make a daisy chain for you?" Daisy chain = A daisy chain connexion Gifted people think with their right brain, which is known to ba analogic, Daisy chain connexion, when you're thinking, is more about left brain (almost 85% of the population if I remember well) "I'm not the one you need. What do you want from me?" Or = You don't need me, you need someone like you, another gifted people ... "You can have anything you want. You can drift, you can dream, even walk on water. Anything you want." Gifted people are known to be "more than the others" which is not really true.. BUT, gifted people are really able to do some kinda things which are spectacular "You can own everything you see." Most of gifted people are very emmpathic, and can see a lot of details normal people wouldn't see. With this, gifted are able to understand a lot of things, and are able to predict some attitude and adjust to these attitude. And when you know something very well, it's almost like to own this thing ... "Sell your soul for complete control. Is that really what you need?" Here "soul" means "emotions" and somewhere "humanity". All gifted are supersensitive, and emotions are something very hard to live with. Gifted can be truely hurted by just a glance (not even a wary look). This is so difficul to live with this, gifted block their emotions and control eveyrthing whit their brain... Some of them can truely look like autistic person (asperger) "You can lose yourself this night. See inside there is nothing to hide. Turn and face the light" Take a look a the Allegory of the Cave from Platon ;) "What do you want from me? " Ok ? where do we go now ? |
