I love the way you get these three interlocking scenes - the narrator, the girl and Michael Barrymore.

This interpretation also fits in with the bit in White Chords where he says "You are in the stars, I will meet you there".

I love the line: 'X' marks the spot or it sometimes means 'No'.

Perfect for the feeling of ambiguity and unsureness in the song.

I like the way everything is becoming human, the train platform and the sloping concrete.

I wondered what Memnon was... from Wikipedia...

"In Egyptian Thebes, on crossing the Nile to the so called Pipes, I saw a statue, still sitting, which gave out a sound. The many call it Memnon, who they say from Aethiopia overran Egypt and as far as Susa... This statue was broken in two by Cambyses, and at the present day from head to middle it is thrown down; but the rest is seated, and every day at the rising of the sun it makes a noise, and the sound one could best liken to that of a harp or lyre when a string has been broken"

I think this is a love song, or about hoping love will last forever. I read some interview where He (Jack) said that the songs are a lot more sentimental than you might think. And it's to do with eternity (eternal love?) Going away somewhere remote together, the rush of infatuation being the surge towards the stars. "After Osiris", it will last beyond death (Osiris was King of the Underworld in ancient egyptian mythology but also the Lord of Love). I thought alot about the ending chant. I think it's saying before we attain this, or get this feeling, we will be unhappy, our faces will be like a boomerang upside down (a frown), and the only way we'll be alive is through something more fake (digital manipulation). Love is the real thing. Also, the outro fits together with the themes of nature vs technology that we find in the album overall, so maybe is not completely related to the previous section.

The narrator is disappointed not to have found love. He/she uploads photos to a dating website but gets no response. They feel old and unhappy, contrasting with the naivity of the young girl on the other side of the street who is hopeful about the future and love.
