| Vanessa Carlton – I Don't Want To Be A Bride Lyrics | 13 years ago |

At first when I saw the song title of "I Don't Want to be a Bride" I thought it was a song about her not wanting to get married; but after listening to it, I realized that's not what she meant at all. She's not ruling out the possibility of being this person's wife. In fact, she wants to spend the rest of her life with them. She just doesn't want to put on this giant show for people that will never understand the intimate workings of their relationship. She doesn't want to trivialize what they share by going along with society's perception of a blushing bride. As in the lyrics "But I don’t wanna wear white. Oh, you know it’s too late for that" Many people rush into marriage because they want the wedding, the ring, and their dream home; but if you truly love someone enough to be with them forever, you don't need all that to be happy. You simply need their presence and your mutual dedication to your love to make it through. This is represented well in the lyrics: "Don’t need no golden ring It’d be no match for the love it brings From London To Tennessee We could Catch a train to another life On a whim, under the moonlight I promise you Will you promise me? Our last names on a wooden sign Arm in arm, where the river starts to wind Forever by your side" I love this song. It's beautiful and meaningful on so many levels. |
