Papa Roach – Before I Die Lyrics 13 years ago
Jacoby went through a very dark time period of his life. With a drug, alcohol, and sex addiction issues, his marriage with his wife, Kelly, was obviously damaged. The couple split up multiple times, it didn't seem likely that they would get back together, but against all odds they did. I believe this song is definitely like an apology to Kelly, and maybe a promise that he will try to be a better husband and all around human. If you have not already watched the music video for this song, I strongly encourage that you do. It makes the explanation seem more clear. There are four characters depicted throughout the video. The first girl in the very beginning seeming to be tempting lead singer, Jacoby, is most likely to represent his struggle with alcohol. The second woman standing in the street sporting lingerie and an umbrella that Jacoby ecounters after fleeing the house is obviously a clear representation of his struggle to be faithful to his wife. The two main characters depicted through the video are one, Jacoby, and two the tall, dark haired woman carrying the torch and wearing the long white dress, She tries to lead Jacoby away from all these distractions throughout the video, she is his voice of reason. After many failed attempts at getting through to him, she disappears. After coming to his senses, Jacoby frantically searches for her. Later he finds her floating in a lake. He then heroically jumps in and saves her from drowning in the water. The girl in white I feel is suppose to depict Jacoby's wife, Kelly. Kelly tried to keep Jacoby on the right path, be there for him through all of his struggles, and love him, but in the end when it was too much she had to disappear. I think Jacoby saving her from the lake is like he is saying that he sees all he has done wrong now, and that things will be different. He is going to live for her before he dies. Really a beautiful song, lyrics, and video. You can see major changes in Jacoby already.
