Fountains of Wayne – Killermont Street Lyrics 13 years ago
Killermont Street was first recorded by Aztec Camera (Roddy Frame) on the Album 'Love' in 1987.

Killermont Street is a street in Glasgow, Scotland (where Roddy Frame comes from), where traditionally buses would leave for London (the 'south').

In 1987, the British Government, led by Margaret Thatcher had privatised the traditional nationalised industries of Glasgow, ship building and steel manufacturing (the ships and the steel), forcing them to 'Compete' on a free market. As a result the industries collapsed and hundreds of thousands lost their jobs.

Many headed to the booming south of England economy that Thatcher created, many would have got there by bus, from Killermont Street.

A bus station remains on Killermont Street, (although it's called Buchanan Street Station)
