He clearly talks about his career in the 70's. The "good" and "bad" things he'd done. And I also believe this is a song indicating change in his life. He's leaving everything behind, he's leaving Major Tom(himself/his personas from the 70's) behind. He also talks about his drug addiction and leaving this behind: "We know major tom's a junkie" "Time and again I tell myself I'll stay clean tonight" This song is really about moving on, about closure. But he wonders if he will really be able to leave Major Tom behind... |
