This, to me, is about a long distance relationship. I don't think the lyrics need much more interpretation than that. I could be wrong, of course!. I've been known to be in the past ;) |

| Noel Gallagher – The Death Of You And Me Lyrics

Hi guys n gals!. First of all, let's get this small issue out of the way - I can't believe it's been all this time and songmeanings is listing the lyric as "Every man's a puzzle", a user said "Is every man's apostle" - the correct lyric, is "Every man's a possum" (as in the animal - yes, that's the true lyric!). Okay, lyric error over with, I can't believe the true meaning of this song hasn't been said yet - simply put - it's (mostly) about Noel Gallagher's relationship with brother Liam (who has just put out his "reply" in the form of the quite-good 'Don't Brother Me'). They are not on talking terms, and from seeing interviews even their kids don't know each other. Around the time this song came out, the brothers' relationship was truly over, they've always kissed and made up before but now it is definitely (in Noel's mind in writing this song, in my opinion) "The Death Of You And Me". Of course it isn't _only_ about the death of said brothers' relationship - it's about, as someone said "Working so hard to protect your family or relationship that you don't enjoy the time you get with them, always feelling jittery, and that storm clouds are always waiting for him once the good times are over.". Also the "Am I watching my TV, or is it watching me?" line, that could stem from his days of giving up cocaine as defined in the song "Gas Panic!" where he just stopped taking the drug apparently and stayed indoors, and suffered a lot of paranoia - remembering that cocaine induces paranoia with heavy usage anyway. I think that line is about that. The song also seems like it's about life moving too fast for Noel's liking but that he'll face every day in a "new way" - very good lyrics. I personally don't think this song is about one thing in particular - like a lot of Noel's work...only he knows the true meaning, but I hope I've shed a little light on this masterpiece of a song!. Cheers. |
