This could be totally wrong, but no one else seems to have any idea... I kind of got the vibe that the narrator of the song was a man discovering that he was gay while in a relationship. He chose to stay with her in spite of not feeling that they were supposed to be together. The lines about the "drag melody" and "wingtips" seem to suggest that he's hanging out with other gay people. The line about him not being able to love because no one notices his heart seems to support this theory. No one has noticed that he is attracted to guys, because we live in a heteronormative society that is very much "assumed straight until proven gay." They haven't really seen his heart, and until they do, he won't feel free to love. As for the chorus, it's talking about his relationship with his girlfriend, having this huge secret. He's become addicted to the security she gives him. No one will ever call him gay with a girlfriend, so he can live a double life of pleasure and fun with men and a "relationship" with a woman. Only now, he's realizing that he should have faced his fears. He regrets his choices, even though they've given him so much pleasure. Now, he'll have to please the Mona Lisas of the world i.e. girls that allow him a connection with a man. We don't praise the Mona Lisa because she's pretty, but because the man who painted her was such a revolutionary mind. Similarly, he will only have a connection with these beautiful souls through his relationships with women and his ability to please them. Just a thought. |

| OneRepublic – Stop and Stare Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| Contrary to what I've seen here, I think that this song talk about a person who's changed so drastically. Maybe they were gentle before, but now they've committed some terrible crime to defend their honor. They've become the person that they never wanted to be, and now their town doesn't want them, so they're going to escape. Once they escape, they realize that the outside world has a life for them that they had never experienced before. They like it, but they miss their home, and come to realize that they don't need a fair sentence (i.e. they didn't go to jail for what they did), they just need the home that they love. It's a beautiful song, one of my favorites. | |

I think you and VeeWima are absolutely right. The song isn't about girls this time, it's about their families. The one edit I'd make to your comment is that I think when he says "And I've been waiting for this time to come around. But baby running after you is like chasing the clouds." he's talking from the point of view of his family. They have soared so far that they are never truly going to be the people their families knew before they were famous, and running after that person is as useless as chasing clouds. To me, this song, especially with the music video, proves how much we don't know One Direction. We may know every fact there is to know about them, but we're never going to know the stories of those pictures in the video-the stories of their lives. |

| It's basically a girl saying how much she loves this one guy, how he makes her feel and things like that. | |
| Little Mix – Turn Your Face Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| My interpretation of this song is that it's the story of a relationship that isn't working because the guy isn't being there for her when she needs him. He has "turned his face" from her problems. The girl probably knew this would happen eventually, and she always wanted to tell him that it wasn't going to work out, but she never got the courage until he turned his back to her. They might've tried being in a relationship with each other before, and every time something went wrong, so when he came back, things just got worse because he brought "one thousand cracks" to their trust and relationship. Now she's telling him to get out and get away from her because she finally realizes they won't work. I don't know, I could be completely wrong, but that's what I think | |
