This is an analogy of abusive relationships from an outsiders perspective. it shows the pain that can be inflicted both physically and mentally, it also more accurately shows the damage it has on self confidence. the fact that the girl doesn't know she's beautiful' shows innocence which is being lost in the process of accidental sexualisation and her use of make-up to cover up the bruises which she now feels naked without. In my opinion it is not a song of romance it is a song of sympathy, he is saying about how she is beautiful the way she is and doesn't need to change to gain the love of an abusive partner which she will never get, which is why this song is giving advice to the younger audience such as there will always be someone who finds you beautiful the way you are. however there will be those who seek to control you through psychological or physical means. |

this song is an in-depth look into Justin Bieber's mind, it is about an insight into his deep seated fear of connecting and committing in relationships so he feels he has to fix himself, and cure his low self esteem, it could also be a way of him saying that he thought fame would fix this problem allowing him a world of girls to connect to, though they are all vain and a cancer on his life and so he calls them a fever. the symbolization of him describing them as a fever, shows the warmth he may feel gradually, however his acceptance of there overwhelming love, seems less of an illness at first but he knows deep down that the only thing that can cure his underlying fear of relationship isn't overzealous love, or sexual acknowledgment it is learning to love himself. as you can never truly share in love until you love yourself. |
