The 1975 – Sex Lyrics 12 years ago
To me, this song symbolizes a specific situation. I think Matt is singing about a guy who is longing for something more than just sex with this girl. Ironically, all they "seem to do is talk about sex." At the end of the song, it truly begins to express how frustrated he is that he couldn't feel anything with her. "They've all got back combs anyway, you've all got boyfriends anyway"---all of these girls are the same to him, and he's just looking for something different; something more than SEX.

Joanna Newsom – Sprout and the Bean Lyrics 13 years ago
Obviously, everyone has their own opinion about this song. That's what makes this website so great! All of these ideas are good, but I believe it's about abortion.
--"I slept all day, I woke with distaste"...symbolizes how the decision on whether or not to get the abortion is a tough one for her. She is unsure on what to do.
--"The difference between the sprout and the bean is a golden ring"...the sprout is a symbol of the unborn child, the bean is a symbol of the baby when it is born. She is undecided about the abortion and knows how the decision could impact her life either way. The golden ring symbolizes marriage. She probably got pregnant before getting married, that is why she is considering the abortion. She doesn't know how those around her will react to her having a baby before marriage.
--"Danger! Danger! Drawing near them was a white coat!"...this could represent a doctor. She is probably nervous about the procedure aspect of it, not just how others will think of her afterwards
--"The hollow chatter of the talking of the tadpoles"...this represents her friends/family and what they would say of her, also her community and the gossip that could be said about her

The Smashing Pumpkins – Disarm Lyrics 13 years ago
This song can be interpreted in a lot of ways, just like every other song out there.
--When it comes down to the general meaning, it can symbolize the giant effect parents have on their children. All we are is what our parents have been. ("the killer in me is the killer in you")
--If you would want to look at it specifically, in terms of Billy Corgan's reasons for writing this song, it is about the child abuse he endured as a kid. Basically, he is singing to his parents, sort of taking pride in how far he has come. They thought he would amount to nothing and treated him terribly, but he became quite famous and successful.

The Smashing Pumpkins – 1979 Lyrics 13 years ago
I think this song is directed towards teenagers. In most schools, there are endless amounts of groups and cliques(the populars, the nerds, the band kids, etc.). And there's always that one group that doesn't exactly have a classification. You don't know what to call them, because, well they don't really belong any place. They realize this, of course, but they don't care. That's what makes them the most valuable people in this age group: the fact that their image doesn't bother them.
--"Cool kids never have the time"...symbolizes their unwillingness to keep track of time, obviously. But a deeper meaning: they don't really have a plan for their future, because they're only concerned with living in the present
--"We were sure we'd never see an end to it all"...goes along with the above comment; they believed they'd be young forever
--"I don't even care to shake these zipper blues"...they weren't too concerned about what the opposite sex thought of them
--"I know you better than you fake it"...these kids recognized the 'fake' people in their age group, and knew who was genuinely themselves, and that's who they hung around with

Lana Del Rey – Born to Die Lyrics 13 years ago
I feel like this song follows two lovers, whose lives do not benefit from their being together. They are both at a bad spot and know that their relationship doesn't help things, but would rather be together, in pain, than apart and all alone.
--"I feel so alone on a Friday night"...expresses how they feel when they aren't together
--"Don't make me sad, don't make me cry"...hints at their problems
--"Keep making me laugh, let's go get high"...they can get over their relationship troubles with drugs and 'artificial love'
--"You and I, we were born to die"...tells that they both acknowledge the fact that their relationship could never work, but they continue seeing each other anyways
