Crosby & Nash – Michael (Hedges Here) Lyrics 13 years ago
Written in memory of their friend Michael Hedges, a musician whose transcendent talent, uncompromising devotion to music, and stunning technical skill made him absolutely unique in the musical world.

Fearless and iconoclastic, classically trained, Michael expanded the boundaries of solo guitar into a landscape where few, if any, could follow. He could seduce sounds out of an instrument that no one else had ever found there, and if he needed a sound that wasn't in there, then he altered the tuning, added strings, added more necks, simply did whatever it took to birth the music of his mind out into the world.

His unexpected death was of course a deep shock to his friends, colleagues, and family. To those who knew him as a musician, it was more than the loss of an exceptional person; it was also the loss of a unique creative force, of countless not-yet-conceived compositions and performances destined to reshape and elevate our experience of the possibilties of music.

To Crosby and Nash, Hedges was not merely another musician. He was a fire -- in the sky -- above, beyond, brilliant, vibrant, unmatched, inimitable, irreplaceable.
