Fall Out Boy – Pavlove Lyrics 13 years ago
Well, I think the song has something to do with a narcissist, as do many of the songs on the "Folie a Deux" album. (I'm the invisible man Who can't stop staring at the mirror, at the mirror) I figure he can't stop staring at the mirror because the song is hinting at narcissistic qualities. (Such as in the song "I don't Care") I also believe that the person the song is about a man either drunk or possibly high. (Something make my chest stir/ Something make my head blur/ I'm not ready for a handshake with death, no/ I'm just such a happy mess, whoa) The bit about the head blurring would refer to being under the influence of a substance. The part about not being ready for a handshake with death could possibly be referring to the fact that the man in the song knows that what he is doing to himself could kill him, but he doesn't want to die. He is "such a happy mess" and likes the way that the alcohol or drugs make him feel. I feel as if the song is also referring to a woman whom the man has brought into his downward spiral. (She's back to the bedroom for one more/I'm the invisible man/Who can't stop staring at the mirror, at the mirror/I want to make you as lonely as me/So you can get, get addicted to this/You can get, get addicted to this now) I feel that it is likely that the man has a woman who he has gotten share his alcoholic habits or drug addiction. He wants her to know what addiction does to him, so that she can feel the same way he does and will be able to relate to his experiences. I think the "back to the bedroom for one more" could be referring to the girl doing another line of meth or whatnot with the man. The drugs would, of course, have an effect on the people and it would cause them to feel like nothing when they were not using it. They would feel invisible and gaunt and like nothing without this drug. Probably the only way that they would be able to reassure themselves that they are truly real, truly there. (It's three things too late to talk to anyone but myself/ It's a three and two pitch to walk to anywhere else, no) This last part was a little harder for me to try and make sense of. I'm going to make a guess here by assuming it could be another narcissistic reference in that the only one who will ever know what he knows and feel what he feels is himself. Though, I also think it could be possible that he did something wrong, and made the girl leave him, though she would have to come back because of the addiction that the two of them shared. (She's back to the bedroom for one more) The rest of the song is basically a repeat of that which I have interpreted already, repeating the invisible man part to add emphasis to the feeling.
