hmm we have a "wave of love" and many references to water/wet. could "the barrel" refer to part of a wave? in surfing a barrel is the most critical part of a wave, difficult to stay in. too slow and it closes in on you, too fast and you lose it. much like a relationship. you are also surrounded by a tunnel of spinning water and then come out into the light, very birthlike. |

@[Henky:45369] if youre still here years later this is a love letter to Philadelphia and the life the bielankos were living there at the time. There is some contrast of upper and lower class happening as well. "The boulevard" in Philadelphia refers exclusively to roosevelt boulevard, a major corridor from northeast Philadelphia (at the time middle to upper middle class white housing area) to the downtown area. Point breeze was at the time a very economically depressed black neighborhood. The contrast is also present in the waitress getting tipped only coin change (head or tails) to the wealthy diners with ballet tickets winding their watches (not a cheap digital watch.) The action news verse is more of a working class feel. |

I think this one is on determinisim/free will: "you're sure the steering wheel is resting in your hands," "the path is written before the act"
There is also a bit of a critique of materialism (familiar territory) - you think success belongs to the bank.
Finally, "you measure hits by stuff in the house." Well, we've all met those psychedelic dick wavers. "I did 3 tabs - oh yeah I did 7." Trips are more sincerely smiles on the face. |

Just heard this live. The confusion on just a sec more/signal is intentional-the signal is the alarm clock. Just a sec more is both his response to the alarm and his daughters response to dad waking her up. At least I think so- towards the end of the song Avey put on a childish going and drew sec more out into a wail for the last chorus. |
