Growing up in Nashville myself, and having seen first hand the teen culture, I think he is more or less reminiscing on his teenage "love" and sexual relationships. The beginning sounds like a typical friday night. Going to a dance proceeded by a high school football game("come on out and dance we're gonna spit on the rival") and then everyone drives out to someones farm and "park the cars underneath the stars". Followed by a lot of beer, and cute southern girls("pretty little girls"). Everyone has a sort of you only live once mentality("Ready to lay in a coffin."). And then he is seducing a girl, going as far as she'll go, he's a crazy teen just trying to have sex. ("If you give me one more beer, imma call a runner"). (a runner is essentially a slut for lack of a better word NOT a drug dealer). also a little grosser thought down south = below the belt so going back down south = essentially going down on a girl as always just my interpretation |

| Passion Pit – Smile Upon Me Lyrics | 13 years ago |

I interpret this as a relationship with a drug, possibly LSD. -the birds nest = the broader? (more open maybe) view of the world associated with acid -the place where people like you meet people like me might be another dimension of higher understanding experienced during a trip(longshot ik) - as his life takes a turn for the worse he wonders if he will still enjoy acid -"its me whose feeling strange" idk..i guess its a longshot interpretation but thats what i felt from it |

| Passion Pit – It's Not My Fault, I'm Happy Lyrics | 13 years ago |

Obviously this is a song very open for interpretation, but I personal feel it is talking about politics and the general disparity between laws made and laws that effect our lives. I feel like it also questions why politicians get to decide who the war is fought against, all the while corrupting the country. As well as mentioning the general consensus of the population in the title "It's Not My Fault, I'm Happy" -"its the number its the numbers" = lobbying? -"They're slow, so slow that they never know where I go"= laws always take to long to be passed to be relevant -"Who says those bastards don't deserve to pay"= whether its war or taxes others are always paying for decisions that the politicians make sorry if that was poorly organized...its late... |
