| Mount Eerie – Real Death Lyrics | 8 years ago |
|
What to say... Pains to listen to this song. I don't know a song where an artist is so explicitly sharing his pain. I almost feel like a voyeur, uncomfortably... Also this part: "and i don’t want to learn anything from this" You're absolutely right Phil, it's your grief, no need to learn anything. Tx for sharing, I hope it helps... |

| @[fallen_flower:22181] think you nailed it. Emphasize the hurtful yearning, the nostalgia. Breathes throughout the song. | |

@[FireworkShowBrandon:16518] it doesn't matter! :) That moment when the guitar solo starts after "...Just give me something that I can touch..." The whole song is build for this moment. Perfection |

| Bob Dylan – Masters of War Lyrics | 10 years ago |
|
The anger, the outrage... Dylan is 100% right; he was right in 1963 and still is in 2016. This song (still) is as sharp as a razor's edge. Where are the contemporary protest singer-songwriters?! |

Fist in the air, in the land of hypocrisy! I'm 35 now, fully embedded in the system with kids and a mortgage. Rage was the first album I bought ever. Whenever I fall asleep ideologically, I just have to listen to this song, wakes me up in a snap :) |

| Rollins Band – Liar Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
Want to add one more thing I haven't really read in earlier comments. The "victim" in this song isn't really a victim. In fact he's an arrogant, introvert narcissistic guy who thinks he knows everything better than anyone else. There's quite a few instances where Rollins is pointing this out... " yeah I know you've been out there tried to mix with those _animals_ " ==> The "victim" likes to think of himself he tried to mingle with his peers, but he can't help but seeing them as idiots, they just don't understand him. He's superior, he's got a more complex view on things and he cannot "degrade" himself to "their level", as much as he tried. In the end, preferring isolation and insult over making an effort to understand how other people work. Quite arrogant. Of course, he's confronted with his humanity; he just needs to be able to relate to other people; trying to find "equal-minded" folks " but the solitary refinement of your room spits you back out onto the street and now you're desperate and in need of human contact " Then he meets someone who's "his equal", he can really talk to. This strengthens him in his perception he's superior to others (because someone else confirms it), so he feels strong. " cause I make you feel so strong and so powerful inside you feel so lucky but your _ego_ obscures reality " Basically Rollins is feeding his ego, increasing the gap between him and "the inferiors", while in reality he's the one not making an effort in trying to understand other people. Rollins is trying to teach this arrogant asshole a lesson. " and all the time that you're needing me is just the time that I'm bleeding you don't you get it yet? " Especially the last line "don't you get it yet". Rollins, of course, understands the situation, exploits it, just for fun and even gets annoyed his "victim" takes so long to understand what's going on. The irony! :) This song to me is a great reminder not to think demeaning about others. Don't settle for "yeah I'm right, you're just to stupid to understand". It can easily turn against you. He's telling not to settle for your own view on things and discard anyone else's as inferior. Keep looking, keep challenging your views,... by exchanging views with others. |

| My Bloody Valentine – Sometimes Lyrics | 11 years ago |

Completely the same here This has happens to me many times: iTunes on shuffle, skip, skip, skip, skip, skip..., "oh, sometimes, sure why not, let this one play".... 15 sec in song and I'm caught... swept away, everything else fades... Remarkable... |

| Low – Dinosaur Act Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
I've got a theory on the song's meaning; here goes :) " You and your daughter and your father flew airplanes " ==> It's a story about a small family business flying airplanes " You and your sister can tell by the back of her hands " ==> they're good at it " It was a dinosaur act dinosaur act dinosaur act dinosaur act " ==> however, the world changes, it's an ending story, the company is doomed because of whatever reason (dinosaur act interpreted as 'extinction' act) " After expenses and pulling up fences no more airplanes " ==> surging costs and after exhausting defending the company's operation with whatever measure available, it's finally bankrupt " And putting your foot down " ==> Denial; firm can't go bankrupt, so they're resisting bankruptcy with all their energy... " a nail shot up like a bright red snowflake " ==>...backfires; there is no way stopping the inevitable. Putting the foot down/holding ground made it worse as they lost time (money?) resisting the inevitable " And all through the dust you feel that you must hear the strings of a dove " ==> trying to be hopeful after the disaster, but they know there is no hope Anyway, that's the (trivial) story that's going trough my head sometimes when listening to this wonderful song. In the end the lyrics don't really contribute to the songs beauty and they don't have to. I love the line "And putting your foot down, a nail shot up like a bright red snowflake" just because of the sequence of sounds, not really what it could mean. What I love about this song the most is its over the top melodrama; at some days its utterly depressing; at other days I can't stop laughing while listening as it's sooooooo slow and melodramatic it is almost a parody. Anyway, this one song lead me to Low's full album and other work; am a big fan now :) |
