You'll probably never see this but I want to add my thoughts to this excellent analysis. Most of what you've said I agree with, but I think in the verse (You missed, you missed) You missed when time and life shook hands and said goodbye. (You missed) When the earth folded in on itself. (You missed) And said "Good luck, for your sake I hope heaven and hell (You missed, you missed) are really there, but I wouldn't hold my breath." (You missed, you missed) You wasted life, why wouldn't you waste death? (You missed, you missed) You wasted life, why wouldn't you waste death? The "You missed" is also pointed to the fact that they were wrong. They missed. But also that they missed the best parts of life (such as looking out at a view "where the ocean met the sky") and that they missed these when they died or, in Brock's words, "when time and life said goodbye", "when the Earth folded in on itself". |
