| For me this song is about the loss of a loved one. I relate the loss of my mother to this song as she is now in a better place (Heaven) and there will still be many Rivers and Roads for me to cross before I reach my eternal home of heaven and see my mother again as I now live in a different state than my family and friends. The main kicker for this song to me is that "So if don't know what to make of this, then we will not relate" as this signifies that if you don't believe in Heaven, we will not relate. | |

For me it is about moving on from a tragedy. When I first heard this song, I had just lost my mother and the lyrics were perfect for me at this time of great sadness as I was trying to figure out what I needed to do with my life now that my mother was gone. "Show me what I'm looking for, oh Lord" was the perfect lyric for my life as I had spent the last three years taking care of my mother and now that she was gone to heaven, I needed to find out who I was and what I was looking for. |
