| Joanna Newsom – '81 Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| first 2 paragraphs read to me very much like a cheeky summary of the birth of the USA. I think it's what the song is about. The rest of the lyrics fit also. | |

Yup. Pretty obvious that it's about drug abuse to escape all the crap in this world (..go to sleep to the rhythm of the war drums..). Naturally it results in isolation. Everything is written from the perspective of the drug / the addicts messed up mind (..I'll be the one to protect you from..). |

| Paul Simon – Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| Very obvious to me that it's about smoking pot. Typical thing to do "down by the schoolyard" plus "but it's against the law!!" is a perfect satire on the naive and anxious parent generation of the time (well, any time sigh). My 2 cents | |
| Elliott Smith – Bottle Up and Explode Lyrics | 13 years ago |

this is obviously about not getting your ass up on a drugged out day. "Keep the troublemaker below Put it away and check out for the day" pretty obvious line. "And in for a round of overexposure The thing Mother Nature provides to get up and go" describes going outside for the first time after not leaving the house for many days (blinded by sunlight -> overexposure). "Bottle up and explode, seeing the stars surrounding you Red, white, and blue" drug trip the relationship stuff is probably someone growing distant from him because of the drugs and the deteriorating lifestyle: "You look at him like you've never known him" (him = E. Smith) Still he's trying to get sober & fight depression: "Bottle up and go, I can make it outside I'll get through becoming you Becoming you" |
