Simon and Garfunkel – I Am A Rock Lyrics 3 months ago
For 60 years this song has brought solace to depressed people, and particularly to people with Aspergers, but I think Paul Simon got it all wrong. This song isn't about depression; it's about a jilted lover who can't get over it!

For starters, depressed people aren't just depressed on gloomy winter days, but on bright summer days as well.

So with no apologies to PS, I have re-written the song about my own situation. Sorry if this doesn't apply to you exactly, but to paraphrase the great Mike Watt: "Write your own damn song!"

I renamed it "Am I a Rock" to avoid (?) any confusion. The verses work out a little differently, but if you know the original well, I'm sure you'll figure it out.

"Am I a Rock"
a rewrite of a Paul Simon song by Gary Davis

A Summer's day,
A bright and lovely August.
I AM ALONE.

Gazing towards my window,
Nothing can I see.
The curtains block out you as well as me.
AM I a rock, am I an island?

I have my bong,
And pornography to protect me.
And all my friends on television!
Safe within my shack
It's friendship that I lack
I touch no one so no one punches back!
Am I a rock, am I an island?

And talk of love?
I've heard of it, from movies.
I hear it causes heartbreak,
Sometimes joy as well,
Mention love and you can go to hell!
Am I a rock, and I an island?

And a rock feels no pain.
An island cries, but on the inside.

@[Jenapher:47957] Sadly, I agree. Rejected by most of humanity, I know I will be accepted, finally, by death.

The Outlaws – Green Grass and High Tides Lyrics 13 years ago
Although this song does pay homage to music and the greats who came before, I think it's ultimately a weed song. First, if you change just one letter in the title, you get "Green grass and high Times forever." What is good about high Tides forever? That doesn't make any sense, but to get it past the censors, you make one little change....

And musically, I think it's hard to appreciate such a long (and somewhat repetitive) solo unless you're high on something!

I can see how religious types could see the 'paradise' described in the lyrics as heaven, but to me it's a poetic attempt to describe the mild pot euphoria ... plus music.
