Okay, I want to start off by saying that I really identify with this song. What I mean is, I've been here. If you listen to Jesse's voice throughout the song you can detect the true meaning. There is sadness, anger, vindictive pleasure, hate, love, and desperation. Jesse has been hurt, you can feel it in certain lines. He is making these actions out anger, at women, unwilling to admit to himself that he himself is desperate for the contact. It's easy for him, to seduce this girl, because he doesn't see her as human. At least at the beginning. He thinks himself clever for tricking her, for taking advantage of her trust, he was once a trustworthy guy so it's easy to act that way especially when the consequences mean nothing to him. Jesse is most likely in the anger stage of grief, most likely from some hard break up. But despite his best efforts to dehumanize this girl he still empathizes slightly, but this is easy to ignore. eventually he grows to hate the girl for falling for his trap, for trusting him. This is because of how it gives him nothing to do this, he still feels empty it's confusing and he blames her. so he takes pleasure from having fooled her, makes her out to be a fool, stupid when her only crime was trusting. He trusted once, and he got fucked over, so she deserves the same, or at least that's the rationale. This is how I interpreted it, at least this how I felt when I was thinking similar thoughts to these lyrics. |
