Switchfoot – The War Inside Lyrics 11 years ago
I cant believe nobody has commented on this great song yet!
I especially love the line "I am the battle line"
All of us battle ourselves; we battle everything that hinders and holds us back from who we want to be or who we know God wants us to be. It doesnt matter what age or race we are - life in general is definitely a war in part.
I also love how the song ends with this line - indicating that there is a reason for our struggle - "Every thought or deed , every tree or seed , THE BIG THINGS COME FROM THE LITTLE DREAMS , every world is made by make believe."
Our personal battles might seem small now, but if we overcome them we'll become better people.

Switchfoot – The Sound (John M. Perkins' Blues) Lyrics 11 years ago
Jon Foreman- "The Sound (John Perkins' Blues) is a very important song for us as a band. I see so much hatred and fear around me, I see so many people living out their pain. I hear it on the radio. I see it in the headlines. John Perkins' story needs to be heard. This song was inspired by a man who sang a louder song than hatred. In a world where we are defined by our differences, Mr. Perkins' life of service and compassion is a tangible demonstration of what it means to live a life of love. Love is the loudest song we could sing. Louder than racism. Louder than fear. Louder than hatred. John Perkins said it right, love is the final fight. We're excited to hear this song on the radio, louder than pain."

Switchfoot – Vice Verses Lyrics 11 years ago
In response to Draken's comment, I think the line "Every blessing comes with a set of curses" means exactly what it says.
In this world, nothing is perfect, and all the so-called good seems to be not completely satisfying.
I like the line that says

Everything seems to fall apart
Everything feels rusted over
Tell me that you're there (God)

God is with us even in the world's imperfection.

Switchfoot – Blinding Light Lyrics 11 years ago
I'm never disappointed with the music of Switchfoot, and rarely with the lyrics either.
This song is great on both points, in my opinion, but I wish that Foreman would have indicated more what the "blinding light" actually is.
Personally, I believe I've found that light in Jesus Christ, and my search has stopped there.
I'm convinced that He is the "reason why", and "the sun that shines" in my life.
He, to me, is the blinding light.

Switchfoot – The Original Lyrics 11 years ago
Great song with a catchy beat.
Overall, to me the song means that no one else can live our lives for us. We're the original copy, so to speak. When we get ourselves in trouble in life, sometimes the only way out is to free ourselves, and not drag other people into our issues.

song seems to be about our need to move on and "dont waste your time" with past mistakes(sins).

Jars of Clay – Collide Lyrics 11 years ago
the third verse seems to indicate the preconceived lie that many people have of God's "lightning bolt wrath"- when we sin we think we'll be struck dead.
But God's grace transcends logic - we wait for the axe to fall, but it's lying on the ground in God's eyes. He's gracious and compassionate, and full of mercy toward those who have missed the mark and are willing to repent.
