i just love this song.. Nico's lyrics are always quite cryptic, but I think this song is about what happens to you when you're lonely ("he had to go"): having no one around, you start looking inside yourself (" Silently you'll go to the shadow of your soul";"With every moon it is as though you're getting closer to your soul") and suddenly you see things you had never seen before ("And you will find that you were blind") and you find out more about who you are. Therefore, the roses in the snow are in my opinion all the things you learn by spending some time alone, which can make you a more complete and, perhaps, a better person.

I love the line "Now you see that only dreams can send you where you want to be".. It's so heartbreakingly true and I think it sums up what the song is about: in time you'll see that life is often dull and disappointing, only in dreams, fantasy and in the beauty of nature (the wind and the rain) you can find shelter from the mundane. |
