Never saw translation of the Russian lines in this song on Englsh. But I'm Russian, so here is it if there are someone who's interesred: "Stupidity of the rulers. Fatal disease. The silence of millions of witnesses. Envy of the workshop. Exile. Diligence. There (meaning "that way") in a state prison suit, just ponder upon these words, on eternal settlement." And I also have a question - does anyone know, if these lines are taken from some book or movie or anything? If no then is it Richey who wrote them, or they were added later by Nicky or someone else from the band? |

| Manic Street Preachers – Small Black Flowers That Grow In The Sky Lyrics | 13 years ago |

I think it's true what you said about animals, about prisoners in nazi's camps etc. But I think it's also autobiographical probably, cause that's how Richey felt I think - like a prisoner, like an animal trapped in cage and this cage is society. Especially in the end of his life and Small Black Flowers... is one of the last his songs. That's I think the main cause of his death or his disappearance, because both these things are escapes, painful, yeah, but it was a salvation. He just wanted to get out of this world or maybe from his psychological situation, but that's doesn't matter, because he was actually sick and nobody could help him. Basically because nobody even cared, people thought it's just a game for fame, y'know, some people can do everything to stand out, and these cuts and anorexia and things - it's all about it. Exept it wasn't. For him it eas for real. But most people was just staring on his suffers like it's show. Staring at him, like he was an animal in the cage in the zoo. I may be wrong of course, I might overrate depth of the song, but that's how I feel it. |

| Manic Street Preachers – Die In The Summertime Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| I didn't see it in comments, but I think it's obvious that name of the song refers to name of the novel called "Death in Midsummer" written by one of Richey's favoutite authors Yukio Mishima (and it's really kind of book Richey would like to read). But I can't find any references to this novel in the lyrics, cause song is definitely about Richey himself. So I'm just wondering if someone noticed some parallels with the book, or do you think Richey just used the name of it, or there's no connection between them. | |
